you take another bite of the burger, just as another person responds:
"What? What were we supposed to write down?"
the burger wasn't bitten.
you're eating nothing.
"Man, I don't care. I want to go home and do nothing."

"I think we were studying that burger... But for what?"
the burger is on your hand, round as ever.
your stomach starts rumbling.
"Well, we were doing nothing while the volunteer ate the burger..."

A random news site found her body @foxwind0w
Her name was Bastian Jesus Miranda Solis, and she was found in a "river full of blood", at least the article says.
The teens who found her said "his torso looked like it had no organs", which I think cant be true, and the site that covered this exaggerates that fact for shock value. But she did show me a picture of her face once, and I think the body's face is super similar to her.

As I pace around my post, in front of the big structure I have to guard, I find myself thinking of when will be the next time I get to do science. The aptitude test said I'm good at researching AND shooting, so why do I only get guard duty?
Well, I know how it is. Gotta do what I gotta do. I question the trespasser and try to turn them away. And if they aim up to take a shot, I shoot first. Never been a problem. Mostly because nobody even comes out here. You'd have to be crazy to think that this is a good place for a stroll. And even if they do, the spotters will tell us that they're coming.
Oh. The sound of leaves being moved around. Gotta act.
I turn my entire body to the noise and lift my rifle, which was lowered and resting on my arms. I look around for the exact source of the noise, with my weapon's stock on my shoulder if I need to fire.
Maybe the sound came from a bit far away. Maybe from these two trees, they're bushier than those around them. There's also a large sideways trunk in front, perfect for someone trying to get cover from gunfire.
As I aim at the spot, I hear the leaves rustle again. There's definitely someone here. I use my left arm to radio the other guards and tell them that I'm approaching.
"Eyes on me, there's suspicious activity on my twelve. Going to investigate. Over."
I begin moving forward, before I hear a response and the thuds of feet against snow behind my back.
"Copy that, moving to your position. Over."
Kind of weird how I hate her. Loki's so uptight. Instead of saying something simple like 'I'm going', she has to ''move" to my "position." Pretentious bit-
Shit. A gunshot. It came from the left, another guard post. I hear my radio go off:
"Heads up, hostiles close by. One at my ten, the other at my twelve. Over"
"Sue, Loki, hostile on your eight. Over."
"Copy," we both say in unison.
I see the leaves in front of me rustle, so I decide to not look over and ready my gun.
I hear a gunshot behind me, Loki got 'em.
Doesn't say anything. Smug bitch.
I see a gun barrel in front of my face.
Muzzle flash.
The shot blows my helmet off, knocking my head back and making me trip backwards, but by sheer luck I pull the trigger in time to stop the person from firing a second shot.
"FUCKER!" I yell.
I briefly think about how my last thought would have been how Loki's a bitch, before I remembered that she was with me. I begin to protest, looking at the front for any extra hostiles.
"Loki, you could have FUCKING saved me, you know?" Someone is talking on the radio. Too pissed though. "Well, I survived," and I turn around to snap at her: "but it was a FUCKING MIRACLE!"
Loki's on the floor.
Someone else is behind the trees.
Muzzle flash.

I aim my rifle at the trees and wait for any activity to happen. I get a strange case of déjà vu, stronger than any others I've had in my entire lifetime. I shoot without thinking and blood comes out of the trees. I hit someone. Was that friendly?
No, of course not. That was an obvious enemy. I saw them before, too-
"FUCK!" I yell. "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON!?"
"Loki, go help Bagel. Hostile on her twelve."
I break at hearing a name I've never heard before. So I yell at the radio receiver.
