CONNIE HAS BEEN MOVED TO @beachcityboardies - a multi-muse for humans in steven universe!

âHe always has been.â Maybe one could say that being a gem and having an alien rebellion leader as brave as Rose was what set Steven apart, but Kimiko had to disagree. His heart, his spiritâŠthatâs what sets him apart. Kimiko, for one, is beyond glad he has someone like Connie to notice and appreciate that.
âI agree. Always plan ahead,â she notes with a small laugh. Connie reminds Kimiko a bit of herself when she was young-thirsting for knowledge and new experiences, always ready and preparing for anything. Itâs sweet.
âWhat kind of snacks did you bring, by any chance?I can tell youâre the real deal, and packing the right snacks and drinks is always important when it comes to adventuresâŠam I right?â
âoh he really has! i mean, when we first met, he saved me.. he didnât know how to use his powers, but he made a bubble around me.. things.. could have gone really bad.. but even then all he wanted to do was get to know me and be my friend. he finds the joy in all the little things in life.. itâs never just about the magic with steven.â connie admitted, smiling to herself, and shaking her head.Â
the mention of what snacks she had brought prompted the child to put her backpack down onto the table smiling knowingly. âiâm glad you asked! ever since steven and i got stuck in a space prison and only had a protein bar between us, i make sure to carry as much supplies as necessary!â really, there was no way she would let herself be unprepared again.Â
âletâs see -- little snacks like trail mix and dried fruit - just in case! protein bars and plenty of water. usually things high in fiber and energy! that way you can preserve your strength if the worst is to happen.âÂ
andstevnâ:
â Ah! Cold feet. Super cold feet! â Feigned efforts to move away ensue as he squirms under the comforter. Growing accustomed to the frigid appendage, all movement ceases and heat rises to the surface of his cheeks. The closeness was a rarity he was not yet accustomed to. One would think that fusing into one âexperienceâ would trump all forms of intimacy, but Steven would beg to differ at this moment. It was one thing to be fused, but another to be likeâŠthis. Laying in the same bed. Together in a way the Maheswarens would likely be opposed to.Â
Sheepish eyes would gaze down at his best friend, her words on a slight delay in his mind as he recovers from his stupor. A nod to answer the first question. Words were not functioning at the moment it would seem. A steep gulp follows thereafter; an attempt to cool oneâs jets as it were.
â Yeah. The sunrise is really pretty from here. Nowhere else comes close. â
connie couldnât help but let out a laugh at stevenâs squirming and his yelp, and she pulled her feet away from him in order to stop tormenting him. as.. fun as it was, she didnât want him to squirm too much he rolled out of the bed. she smiled over at him as he peered down at her, and as she registered the darker colour of his cheeks in the dim light, and pulled the comforter up to hide her own blushing cheeks. there was no harm in this.. she just wanted to be close to her best friend as the sun rose.Â
  that was fine... right?Â
âi bet it is.. have you ever watched it from the temple hand? you know -- where your laundry machine is? we should do that some time.â -- right now, despite her slight embarrassment, she was pretty comfortable.. and didnât want to move too much. though, if steven was this flustered by her being here.. âdo you want me to go back to the couch?â she asked, chewing on her bottom lip slightly.Â
biscuitinchargeâ:
His motherâs sword being brought back up made Steven somewhat pensive. He looked somewhat conflicted as he mulled his thoughts over.
âYâknow, itâs kinda weird, butâŠIâm not really sure how I even feel about what happened to Momâs sword⊠On one hand, it came with a lot of baggage in light of some of the uglier things I learned about her past, and looking at it and using it often made me feelâŠwell, some really weird feelingsâŠâ The fight Rose had with its creator and subsequently kept secret from their friends was one particular thing that had come to mind, as was the infamous faked shattering that came with a cornucopia of consequences.
âBut still, the sword was, like, one of the few pieces of Mom I ever had. As much as it was a physical reminder of the bad things she did, it was also a reminder of the good, and it kinda made me feel close to her. Even though I never got to know her in person, yâknow?â
Ahaha, whoops! Got a little too deep there. Swim back to shallow water, Universe. âB-But hey, that new swordâs pretty cool, too. And in the hands of someone amazing as you, I bet the new oneâll have loads of awesome new memories attached to it in no time!â Whew, nice save.
as steven focused on what happened to roseâs sword, connie glanced down at the ground for a moment, feeling the small shred of guilt beginning to grow into something bigger. she hadnât shattered the sword, true, it had been blue diamond, but.. if she hadnât charged in so recklessly.. maybe things could have been different.Â
why had she thought directly diving at a giant space dictator had been a good idea?
âi get it.. it was a physical reminder of your mom and all of the things that she did and stood for.. both good and bad,â connie surmised quietly, moving to hug her knees, resting her chin atop of them as she stared out at the ocean.Â
âit was a symbol.. and now itâs just.. gone.â
connie rubbed at her eyes with the back of her hand, letting out a tired sigh as steven tried to deflect the conversation somewhere else. it was a very steven tactic, but.. she had to get this out there now. they couldnât just avoid the subject forever.Â
âbut.. these memories wonât be the same as the memories that came with that sword.. i mean, your momâs sword was the first i ever used, and i felt so honored that youâd even let me touch it! you trusted me with the sword, let me use it and i shouldâve taken care of it better than i did. iâm sorry, steven.âÂ
biscuitinchargeâ:
Steven laughed at the very notion. âWhatchoo talkinâ âbout, Connie? You were always a Crystal Gem. From the moment you vowed to protect the Earth ,â he grinned. â âFight for life on the planet Earth. Defend all human beings, even the ones that you donât understand. Believe in love that is out of anyoneâs control. And then risk everything for it!â Pearl called that Momâs manifesto. And if follow that in your heart, you are a Crystal Gem.â
And Steven totally knew what the word âmanifestoâ meant, of courseâŠbecause he looked it up in the dictionary after Pearl used it, but still! âAs long as you have the will to defend life, and the smarts and resourcefulness to do so, you are a valued member of the team. Sword or no sword!â He then admitted offhandedly, âThough a sword definitely does help. Like, a lot.â
âwell, then i guess iâm the first crystal gem who doesnât have a gem!â connie announced, thrusting her fist up into the air with a triumphant grin. âthe crystal human! or.. crystal connie..â she trailed off for a moment, before she shook her head. âno, none of those have the same ring to it that crystal gem does.â still, connie couldnât help but smile at him, grateful. she knew that steven and the gems accepted her.. they wouldnât have let her come to space with them otherwise, but it was nice to hear it.
âyeah, the sword definitely does help,â she laughed slightly, shaking her head. âi was kind of useless without it.. well.. not useless, iâll have your back no matter what, but.. being able to fight and defend myself and you guys is important to me, too.â she admitted, âand this sword is just.. perfect for me! i mean, your momâs sword was amazing, and pretty lightweight for being so big, but this one was made with me in mind, so itâs so easy to move with!â
pyrotechedâ:
âOh no, nothing like that. Stevenâs such a sweet boy, after allâŠand he seems to be very fond of you.â Kimiko cant help but be a tad insinuating, even if she means well and knows she doesnât want to do anything to change her views towards Steven. (This girl is important to Steven, after all.)
âPleasure to meet you officially Connie.â With a warm smile, she shakes the girls hand in her own, proceeding to stand up. âAre you hungry or thirsty?Iâd hate for you to be uncomfortable while you wait. Thereâs snacks and drinks in the kitchen. I can get you something if youâd like!â
âoh, yeah -- stevenâs really special,â connie agreed, her cheeks warm as kimiko mentioned that steven was fond of her. she knew he was, of course - they were best friends! still.. the way kimiko had said it implied a little more that friendship, and the young girl looked down at the floor with a pleased, but shy smile.Â
she glanced back up as her hand was shook, and let go, moving to grab the strap of her bag with both of her hands. âno, thatâs okay! i always come prepared with snacks, i think itâs important to stay stocked up, i mean, you never really know what could happen or where youâll end up!âÂ
diamcndlegacyâ:
âOh thatâs okay connie!â He said before grinding his hands together. Forming a clear diamond. âDonât worry itâs a non living gem. This way we can pay for our clothes. Now we just gotta turn this in for some money. We can even get ourselves lunch too!â
connie could only stare with wide, awe filled eyes as steven created a gemstone right in front of her eyes. âsteven! that was incredible!â she reached out, taking the diamond and turned it back and forth in her hands. âitâs like.. a perfect cut diamond - you can DO that? thatâs amazing!â steven certainly was unlike anybody sheâd ever met before, that was for sure.Â
pyrotechedâ:
Kimikoâs been going to see Steven and visiting him at home for a long time now, and while it had been a good while since sheâd been back in Beach City, she got into old routines relatively quickly, and so here she was, waiting for the Gems and Steven to come home reading while eating a snack on the couch.
âOh, hello.â She smiles, putting down her book and looking at the young teenager in front of her. âIâm KimikoâŠIâm a friend of Steven and the GemsâŠYou areâŠâ Oh, she knew this one. She knew she did. âYouâreâŠConnie, right?I remember him talking a bit about you.â
âoh, you know steven and the gems!â of course she did - why else would she be sat so comfortably in their home? connie shook her head at her own foolishness, but she was quick to smile when kimiko mentioned her name. thrusting her hand outwards to shake, she let out a small laugh.Â
âoh gosh.. itâs nice to meet you, kimiko! yeah, iâm connie.. stevenâs been talking about me? i hope itâs nothing bad.â she knew steven would never, but she couldnât help but be a.. little curious to know what heâd told this woman about her.

[â©] Without an ounce of hesitation the two new recruits joined Connie at her side was she starting to get taller? Hmm. Anyway, Peridot notices this, but eh, didnât seem like too much to worry about. If both of them were honest about this they were a little surprised they were being called on for this; as they usually hung back with Bismuth helping design a âcolony communityâ
âHello, Connie.âÂ
Peridot stood proudly with her flashy visor now allowing her gem out in the open and free like Amethyst. She pointed out stepping forward with her citrus rain boots on the moving platform they squeaked a little bit with a huge smile on her face. She was without a doubt thrilled to be back in the action! She had been salivating for a chance to get back out here and prove herself useful to the group. She had not been this excited since she and Connie got separated from the group in the booby-trapped shrine. Connie and she proved themselves to be a force to be reckoned with! Â
âCrystal Temps Congregate! Once more!â
âWoohoo..âÂ
There was sarcasm, but a hint of playfulness in the inflection of Lapisâ voice. She was facing the other way in case this thing would move and knock her off. Lapis took a more subtle approach to this situation. After all, they did not know what they were going to be facing just yet on this unfamiliar plant. She lifted up her foot and scratched an itch behind her other foreleg with the side of her sandals. It had been a while since they were needed for any real fighting so it could be dangerous. Peridot appeared like she wanted to document the moment. In that case, to help her roomie happy Lapis would do a silly little pose.   Â
peridotâs dramatics and lapisâ blatant sarcasm were enough to draw laughter out of the young human girl, and she smiled at the both of them before she turned in order to strike a pose, as they often did when the crystal temps found a way to work together. it was a rarity now, but when they did get to team up, connie was just relieved theyâd all learned from their first stint as the stand-ins for steven and the gems.Â
no more pretending to be steven for her - she was connie maheswaran, and she would do things her way! sheâd make steven proud of course, she never wanted to do anything that would disappoint him, but she was confident that the way she could handle things would be just fine.Â
âitâs great that weâre all back together -- but i guess we should sort of get serious.â she confessed, trying to wipe the smile from off of her face, pressing her hand to the pommel of her new sword, resting down upon her hip.Â
âi spoke to pearl over stevenâs communicator.. it seems like some of the new gems here have tried to re-active some old gem building and they tripped the alarm systems somehow.. unfortunately.. those gems havenât come out of the buildings, so we donât really know what happened to them in there.âÂ
connie frowned slightly, shaking her head for a moment. âpearl said it was one of the old gem structures they couldnât get into themselves, so it must be connected to a certain gem type. they were looking for refuge and they found trouble, so itâs our job to help them out!âÂ
a-young-lionâ:
She let Connie catch her breath, and was relieved that the human managed to get a hold of herself. Well it could be worse, I couldâve met a Connie who hadnât met Steven yet. Also means my presence wonât make a scene.
âHi Connie,â Serena answers. âMy nameâs Serena. I-Itâs alright, I-Iâve sorta gotten used to travelling t-to places without talking or walking lions.â She grins a bit at a the many times it had occurred in the past.
âthatâs not super surprising to hear, but if you donât mind me asking, where do you come from?â connie asked, curiosity getting the better of her. âiâve met a pink lion before, but our lion canât talk or walk on two legs.â she explained, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.Â
âiâm really not trying to come across as rude, iâm just.. really curious.â it was definitely not her intention to come across as poking her nose into places where she shouldnât, but this was a.. very unique circumstance.Â
diamcndlegacyâ:
âOh yeah they just cleaned my clothes instantly. Took like maybe a minute. Things are a lot more advanced on homeworld but you know I like how relaxing and calming it is here. Really peaceful.â He nodded eagerly. âOh connie! Leâts go clothes shopping! You can help me find my signature style!â
âoh -- well, sure, i guess we could,â connie offered, though she seemed to look slightly apprehensive. âi donât really have enough money to buy food, though.. my parents gave me enough for the bus here and back and a few snacks and drinks to get me through the day, but.. thatâs all, really.â she confessed.Â
with my short existence                             i can make a difference.

He shrugged. âNot really. I mean gems they just emerge wearing one outfit and thatâs what they wear for thousands of years. They donât ever change that much. Usually when they reform they donât change their outfit. I used to wear my momâs old uniform but you know it made me feel completely in her shadow so I designed this outfit.â He said as he turned all the way around. Showing off the princey attire. âI guess I could try some human clothes but they gotta fit my style. And I definitely wanna keep my crown.â He said as he poked the floating accessory. âDo where do you get clothes anyway? Mine were handmade.â
âoh.. i see, well, here on earth, we usually change our clothes every day. itâs a cleanliness and hygiene thing.. and i guess a lot of people have different types of clothes based on the sort of fashion that they like.â connie tried to explain, and kicked her foot into the sand lightly. âiâm not an expert, i only really wear what feels comfortable for me, but.. you usually buy them from clothing stores. a lot of stores do have clothing sections too, so i guess you just need to look around and see what you like.â

"I didn't mean for us to fuse! I'm so sorry! Please don't hate me!" diamcndlegacy (they're currently fused)
âs-steven.. what.. what is this..?âÂ
the fusion stared down at themselves in shock, gaze flitting from their hands to their clothes, trying to understand what had happened to them. connieâs mind was whirling - she knew little to nothing about fusion, about this whole entire experience, and this was.. something she couldnât put a name to.Â
stevenâs words coming out of their mouth prompted the connie half of them to try to soothe him - whatever this was, theyâd figure it out. they would be fine.
âitâs okay - i donât hate you, i just.. i donât understandâÂ
Having a magical half alien boy as a best friend. That's amazing Connie. It's like you're living the life of the kind of characters in your books.
âwell, you might be right about that - i hadnât really thought about it that way, but.. i guess i would be more of a side character in one of those books.. someone who has their life changed by an amazing, magical person.. i.. i think that sounds pretty nice.â
"What kind of food is this?" diamcndlegacy
âoh â thatâs pizza. iâm not really allowed to eat it.. well, i can, but.. it depends on the pizza and the way itâs made.. and the ingredients put into it. itâs such a fuss that i normally donât bother.. but.. you should try it! maybe youâll like it.â
