The Darker Shades of White || Lily Evans & Sebastian Avery
Sebastian Avery unsettled Lily. Sheâd heard of him, of dark curses in the hallways and first years in the Hospital Wing. Sheâd hated him, for a while, because he had taken Severus away from her, illogical as it was. She hated him, now, because he brought it up again, because he stuck his knife into a scab wound and then pitied her for the pain. She was annoyed at him, for making her stay in the hospital more difficult than it already had to be. She distrusted him, because he sounded so unagressive, and maybe it was real but maybe it wasnât, maybe it was yet another Slytherin act.
Lily thought that if she had to deal with another Slytherin in the next few weeks, she might explode.
Her hands fisted beneath the sheets, then smoothed it out again. Outside, the sun had come out, and Lily fervently wished that she could be out there. Or at least anywhere but here.
"Apology accepted," she said, stiffly.
Sebastian did not understand Gryffindors. "I was being sincere, Evans, but if you don't want to accept my apology then don't. I'd rather not have anyone else lie to my face."
He winced in pain and gingerly placed his left elbow into his right hand. Whatever that Ravenclaw did had really done something painful to his shoulder, and just rolling onto it had not helped. Sebastian hoped that it was minor and would not be pleased if it turned out to be an injury that was worse than a sprain. He could not wait until that nurse came back to reassure him that it wasn't anything major. It was absolutely essential for him to be in perfect physical condition for Quidditch. It hadn't quite started yet but he needed to be ready for the start of the season.Â
