i think im gonna use real pictures of hyenas for my reaction icons bc ???? as near and dear to my heart as the lion king, and the hyenas are to me, they just ?? barely look like hyenas for one, and two its?? very hard to find flattering screenshots of shenzi lmao all of the ones i find/take are all,, yikes lmao

i. Shenzi herself, had seen many leopards in her day, treeing several, and stealing from many more, thus the appearance of this leopardess came to no surprise of hers. But her ears swivel to meet the new voice regardless, a lax, but pugnacious expression illuminating her features, the hint of a fleeting grin curling the corners of her maw upwards.

ii. Since the death of Scar, her clan had gradually vacated the pridelands, and in doing such, had become almost nomadic, although the hyena hoped this would change soon; moving frequently with such a large clan, with mothers and cubs, and with herself for that matter, was getting old very fast! Personally she loathed the arduous search for new stomping grounds, especially since it was rare her kind travel this far into the forests. It was her intent to pass through this area, what good was a plains hunter in such dense brush? Thus, she had run ahead, finding herself frustrated that they had not yet found the exit to this labyrinth of greenery.

iii. The hyena matriarch sizes the other up, almost nonchalantly, a lone leopard is of no concern to her. Regardless, her ears are held upright, and her stance is solid, unmoving. Shenzi did not want to expend much needed energy if she could help it (though had she not been traveling, the story would have perhaps been different), and hoped her confident show of bravado would put the other off any idea of violence. An almost bored huff leaves her at Sabor’s rhetorical inquiry, opting to shoot back with a bit of her own snark, though its spoken in mild humor as well. She supposed the other may have simply never seen a hyena, however she dismissed that thought in the moment.

“What’s the matter? Got somethin’ wrong with your eyes? I always had it figured leopards were smarter than lions, guess not.”

Its a simple enough request; leave. But a stubborn ferver persists, as the hyena gives the other a look of sheer malevolent amusement.

Its theft, to put it plainly, to encroach on the pridelands with the intent to hunt, however, Shenzi gives this no thought. The world of hyenas is that of a brutal, rigid hierarchy, in which the strongest female leads, and while she rules with an iron fist, Shenzi knows that, while her clan had remained faithful thus far, that if they really wanted to, they could easily dispose her. Keeping them fed and happy was a top priority, and as their numbers only continued to swell, prey was becoming scarcer in their own territory, and she had not turned a blind eye to the discontented mutterings, and complaints, though they had mostly been said in good fun, the hyena matriarch knew it was only a matter of time before they became all too serious. Her kind were fickle beings at best; one moment fiercely loyal, and the next, favoring a younger, stronger contender for the leading position.

Theres a moment of thoughtful silence, after all, her clan was not too far off, one rallying whoop, and they’d be at her side. But this was a lone lioness as far as she could tell, she felt no threat was imminent, and that at the moment, she was in no danger.Not bothering to stifle the racous cackle bubbling in her throat, nor stopping her tufted tail raising in her indignance, a step forwards is taken, in complete contrary to the other’s words. This show is not in foolish bravado either, Shenzi favored her chances if aggression were to boil over, while a tad smaller in stature, she was confident in her abilities. A fight would not be picked though; while she thought she’d have a chance in one on one combat, she’d much rather resolve this with a bluff of undeterred snark than a physical scrap, when her energy could be saved for something far more important.

“Or you’ll what? I ain’t goin’ anywhere, you can stand there and look mad all you want, I’m not budgin’”
