Titanic, pearl harbor, chernobyl diaries, the boy in the stipend pajamas, etc. All movies based on huge tragedies where hundreds, sometimes even millions died. Why don't people ever fucking bitch about those?
Oh boy, lemme tell you a thing buddy. Iâm assuming this is in response to my post on âThe Forestâ thatâs been floating around.
Each and every one of those movies, aside from Chernobyl Diaries, which portray death in a respectful mannor, and each and every one of them bring to light the things that really happened in an informative way. Take note that none of those movies (aside from Chernobyl Diaries, which is totally excluded from this entire thing because itâs in the same boat as The Forest) are classified as horror and instead classified as drama. The forest is a fictional piece of shit that takes no real context, aside from the setting, from Japan and its suicide forest. The Chernobyl Diaries takes some context, but is still trashy.
The other movies make an attempt to inform and educate, and donât make up bogus lies. The movies you mentioned arenât offensive, are entirely respectful, and altogether much better than the forest.
I think a good example on this front would be to take a look at âLife is Beautifulâ
itâs a story about the holocaust, and is beautifully done. The movie makes no effort to sheild the audience from the horrors that happened and it doesnât twist them and warp them until they become fantasy. No, this movie is extremely hisctorically accurate and perfectly portrays the horrors of the holocaust. It doesnât need fake creatures or black magic to lure you in or scare you, the startiling, funny, and touching scenes of âLife is Beautifulâ do it on their own.Â
In regard to the movies youâve listed:Â
The titanic is historically accurate as well and though Rose and Jack are fictional, they are simply items used to help get the story out. The titanic does not use a concept of black magic, spirits, or haunts to lure us in.
The boy in the striped Pajamas is also historically accurate, and much like the other movies iâve listed, comes from a place of respect and a need to inform. It too, does not blame the events on black magic, ghosts, or hauntings.
People arenât upset about these movies because thereâs nothing wrong with informing through entertainment. A story can be made up (such as Life Is Beautiful) So long as it is executed respectfully, accurately, and is historically realistic.
The forest is just a bullshit movie that romanticises suicide and thinks itâs ok to use the concept, and a place where people died as a basis for a movie and blame the suicides that happened there on ghosts and magic. itâs not informative, or historically right, or even remotely respectful
