Before I came to Greater Philadelphia Cares, I was very excited to work there. I thought it would be fun. However, after I worked there for the first week, I realized this job is very boring. I faced the computer for the whole days just to translate the document from English to Chinese. The worst thing is we can not talk. Everyone is working on ones computer. They are very busy. My employer didn't talk to me at all except saying "hi", "thank you", and "bye". My coworkers also didn't talk to me except during lunch time.
The challenges that I faced in my work site are there's no Chinese tool bar in the computer. So, I can only use Google to translate from English to Chinese, but it takes too long, and some of the Google translation are not accurate. After I translated them in Google, I copied them and paste them on the Microsoft word. However, some of the Chinese words became dots in the Microsoft word. I will have to ask someone who works there to help me next Monday.
The biggest obstacle that I have is the first day I worked there, I had a stomach ache. I went to bathroom for a few times. I went to the kitchen, and ate a pill that can reduce pain with hot water. But my stomach still hurt. Therefore, I told my employer about it. I left there earlier and I went home. I was very mad at myself because I gave my employer and coworkers a bad impression on the first day.
I don't think I get any rewards of beginning to work as a new employee of my work-site. However, through this job I learned what I want to do for my future career. I want to have a job that can communicate with people. I don't like office work or any sedentary jobs.
Adaptability in transitioning into my work-site is very important. However, I do not adapt in my work-site at all. I never worked in a job that relates to office work. I'm not comfortable to sit in front of the computer for the whole day. I really want to communicate with people and do activities.
Although this job is very tedious, I will try to make it more interesting. I don't know how, but I will try. Sometimes I feel bad because my parents work so hard for the family, but they didn't complain about it. I feel I'm very suck. My work is not as hard as theirs, but I keep complaining about it. From now on I won't complain about it. I will try to learn more things from this job. My brother said, "when you overcome a job that you don't like, at the end you will become much mature." Maybe he's right.
