“I gathered,” Natasha chuckled, but her brow furrowed a moment later when Sydnee mentioned where the boy in question was from. “Malus?” she echoed. As much as she tried not to judge others based on where they came from, she couldn’t help but be wary, especially when the person in question was getting close to one of her children. “Syd, who is it?”

“They’re here to learn too, mom. Maybe just hold off on judgement?” She points out before shrugging and looking back down towards the ground. “One of the Von Doom kid’s, he’s a 5th year. He’s actually not bad and it’s nothing serious and honestly you’re probably not going to see him again?” She subtly texts as she speaks sending a text to the boy to go out through the window to avoid her mom.

“I really don’t care about that many people so I think I’ll be fine.” He was already terrible at showing he cared  about people so he didn’t think it was a huge deal. He was convinced his family couldn’t get any more fucked up than they already were from anything he did either. He rolled his eyes. “I’ve never been rock climbing before. I’m sure I can figure it out though. I doubt it’s that hard.”

“All the more reason to keep those you care about safe.” She shrugs and moves on, seemingly to visibly change headspaces. She straightens up, eyes scanning the gym, she seems to become more serious before turning back to him, “Maybe but you’re not getting on the wall until you know how to not fuck yourself up when you fall, because you will fall.”

Bucky’s eyebrows immediately draw together as his daughter hesitates. “You sure?” he says. “Nothing you want to talk about?” He gives a little shrug. “The new school year is – well, new. Anything could happen. It makes sense that the idea makes you a little nervous, nothing wrong with that.”

She nods in affirmation, “Positive.”She listens to him talk, nodding just a little bit, “Like this school year I for whatever reason have to take mutant history. I’m not a mutant so why am I being put through this?” She groans and stabs a pancake with her fork, “I’d rather just take another round of genetics or use it as a dedicated training section.”

“Well, thank you very much,” Orion responded with a grin before thinking over an answer for a few moments. “Honestly, there’s not much planned. We could do some sparring, some old fashioned hanging out. I hear there’s a Harry Potter marathon that someone started up in the common rooms.”

“I’m not sparring this close to school, it reminds me too much of the actual school year.” She shrugs, “Harry Potter is never a bad thing, plus, we could make it a drinking game, liven things up?”

“Not surprising.” He shrugged and looked at her before frowning. “Away from here. And I had a thought about not coming back.” He shrugged slightly. “There’s other schools where you can have better trainings than here.”

“Sometimes I wonder bout not coming back, to just stop training and going and traveling. Changing my name and just dropping off the face of the earth.” She muses, before pulling out her phone and pulling up a map. “So where are we going then? We could go anywhere in the world.”

“Help yourself to anything in my closet then.” She offered. Yesenia didn’t mind sharing that much, especially if it meant they could spar sooner.

She goes to the closet quickly pulling out a pair of shorts and a tank top, easy enough to spar in. She changed quickly and scraped her hair into a bun. “Ready to get your ass kicked?”

She was silent for a moment before she shook her head, lips curving upwards slightly into a rueful smile. “Well, it’s not like you’re underage,” she sighed. “Not that that makes it any less strange to come home to.” It wasn’t something she’d get used to with any of her kids, even if she herself had a less than stellar past when it came to such things. “So, who is it?” She hadn’t been aware of Sydnee seeing anyone, though she always seemed to miss out on a lot when she went away for missions.

Syd relaxed, stomach unclenching as her mom didn’t freak out. “I really didn’t think you’d be home until a little later...” She looks towards her room, “Just one of the guys from Malus, you don’t know him and it really isn’t anything serious.” Syd hadn’t been looking for anything like this but if it happened who was she to say no?

Gabe was definitely relieved when she said mutant history. “As a mutant myself and grandkid of Erik, I know my mutant history pretty well.” Sure, other people in his family probably knew more about the subject, but at least he wasn’t completely clueless. He grinned as he handed over his phone. “Definitely. I’m always willing to do something fun before the end of the summer.”

She typed in her nukber quicky before naming herself “The Best Barnes 🖤” and locking it and handing it to him. “Perfect! It’s a fair trade.” She smiles, “How about a beach trip? There’s an amazing beach and it has some sick rocks to climb where when you fall it’s down into the water below. The rush you get is amazing.”

“The thought did cross my mind,” Natasha nodded, arching a brow at her youngest. “I figured I’d let you explain before I start coming up with theories, though.”

She arches an eyebrow right back at her mother before looking down at her nails, “There may or may not be a boy in the house.” She says it as casually as she’d say that she wanted food before glancing up to gauge her mothers reaction.

Bucky grins back at her, pulling one of his own t-shirts out of the basket of his own laundry that he’d just done and handed it over. “Here, that’s more secure than a towel,” he said, before making his way to the kitchen. “That’s a good point. I’ve missed you and our pancake dinners. How are you?”

She pulls the tee shirt over her head after he leaves and fixes herself, “I’m...” She pauses, how had she been? “ok. A little nervous to start the school year with no clue why. That and I’m starving all the time.” She grins before getting a plate ready.
