Whether you’re a summer fan or more of a winter lover, I’m sure you would agree there are good and bad things to both seasons! Summer in Sydney is characterised by warm to hot weather, perfect for beach outings and water sports. The downside is the potential for very high temperatures and humidity, which can be uncomfortable and lead to bushfires. On the other hand, winter has milder temperatures, making it pleasant for outdoor activities without the extreme cold. However, it can be damp and rainy. June is usually the month with the most rainfall. And that’s why I’ve put together this blog post!

With so much potential for rain during winter, now is the time to prepare yourself and protect your home with Sydney gutter cleaning. Your gutters will need to be clean and clear, ready for the incoming rainfall, if you want them to keep protecting your home! I learnt this the hard way a few years ago. I had neglected to clear the autumn leaves from my gutter, thinking it was no big deal. The constant flow of water down the walls caused the paint to peel and the wood trim to start rotting. This required significant repair and repainting, which was not cheap! And that’s not all. You can also consider investing in some water-proof clothing, but that isn’t absolutely necessary, it’s just a preference for me because I don’t want to ruin my clothes!

You’ll need to ensure you have a sturdy ladder that is sufficiently tall for the task. Consider using a ladder bracket for added stability, depending on your roof type. It's crucial to avoid resting the ladder directly on the gutters to prevent damage, as they can easily crack under pressure. Additionally, I highly recommend using an anchor point and harness for safety when working on your roof or gutters.

Gather Your Tools

When preparing for Sydney gutter cleaning, gather all the right tools for a safe and efficient process. As we already mentioned, you’ll need a sturdy, appropriately sized ladder and, if needed, a ladder stabiliser to prevent damage to the gutters. A small plastic scoop or gutter cleaning tool will help you remove leaves and muck effectively. Consider using a bucket or a tarp to collect debris and keep the area clean. Additionally, have a garden hose handy to flush out any leftover debris and check that your gutters are draining properly. For safety, especially if working on a multi-story home, use an anchor point and harness.

Use a small plastic scoop or a specialised gutter cleaning tool to remove the accumulation of leaves, twigs, and other debris that have been collected in the gutters. Make sure you're wearing heavy-duty gloves to protect your hands from sharp objects and potential pests that may be hiding in the debris. As you remove the debris, collect it in a bucket for easy disposal or drop it onto a tarp spread out below to keep your yard clean. Take your time to ensure all large debris is cleared out, as this is crucial for preventing clogs and ensuring proper water flow! This will help to push any lingering debris toward the downspout and reveal any clogs or leaks in the system. Pay close attention to the water flow; if it doesn’t drain freely through the downspouts, you likely have a blockage! To clear a clogged downspout, insert the hose at the top and use high pressure to force the obstruction out. If this doesn't work, use a plumber’s snake or a similar tool to dislodge and remove the blockage.

Organic farming also avoids using genetically modified organisms (GMOs), antibiotics, and growth hormones, focusing instead on natural processes and biodiversity. So, what are the benefits of eating organic? Read on to find out!

The flavour was the first thing that stood out to me when I tasted organic produce. They all had a rich, authentic taste, unlike the diluted flavour we're accustomed to from store-bought ones. Organic produce typically offers a superior taste compared to non-organic options. This enhanced flavour is due to the absence of pesticides and other chemicals in organic farming, allowing the food to grow naturally and fully develop its taste. So, you've discovered your tree is dead or rotten and needs to be removed. Time to grab the chainsaw? Nope! Attempting to remove trees without council approval could result in fines of up to $110,000. Shocking, isn’t it? This is why you must seek permission from your council before removing a tree from your business property or garden.

The Urban Forest Act 2023 classifies protected trees into two categories:

Registered Trees – These are listed due to their significant importance.

Regulated Trees – These meet specific criteria and are located on leased land within a tree management precinct. 

A regulated tree:

(a) is 8m or taller, or (b) has a canopy at least 8m wide, or (c) has one trunk with a circumference of 1m or more, measured 1.4m above natural ground level, or (d) has two or more trunks with a combined circumference of 1m or more, measured 1.4m above natural ground level.

Exceptions to this act include pest plants under the Pest Plants and Animals Act 2005.
