Personal Project 2
Levitation
Panorama
The first picture is one of the panorama's taken on our class outing to the warf. The second is of the 40th street bridge in Lawrenceville at sunset. The third is an early morning at my job in the Andy Warhol Museum.
When deciding on a subject for my personal project, I looked back at the pictures that I took over the course of the semester to try to see what my favorite subjects were. I really gravitated toward photos of architecture in the city and reflections, so I started to think PPG Place. The tower is the most distinctive part of the Pittsburgh skyline and the more I looked at it, the more I realized that it had really interesting angles where I would be able to capture slightly distorted shots of other buildings in its reflective surface. I think that normally when people look at it, they don’t really take in just wonderful it is so I decided to focus my shots to be things that they wouldn’t notice about it if they weren’t specifically looking. I wanted to do a collection of shots that showed the best features of PPG which are it’s reflective surface and it’s Christmas festivities. I think that aside from making a neat set of photos, it also shows the type of work I’m interested in doing as a learning photographer. I like to do distorted, almost abstract pieces that show off the places near and dear to me, like this wonderfully dramatic building downtown.
