I lost a little faith in humanity today in one of my classes.
The professor asks the class "Is violence an okay action against some one who deliberately attacks your beliefs?" the question came from a situation last year where pope Francis said something along the lines of "if you were to attack his religion you should expect a punch to the face" and the shortly following situation where the french artist was shot and killed for drawing Mohammed in his comic strip.
The first answer was "Killing some body is not okay, but to directly and deliberately attack my beliefs will end up with you on the ground if you push too far"
I accept the fact that that guy probably doesn't like when people push him to far.
The second answer was something along the lines of "Your religion is right to you, but it doesnt make it right to everyone else. no one knows for sure whos right"
I largely ignore the convo following that because of blah blah blah religion blah blah Christianity blah Islam.
But at this point i was tired of these young shitheads narrow view on life.
I fire in my opinion. which is simple. "some one some where IS going to have a different opinion than you. Some one some wheres opinion IS going to offend you. your beliefs, your opinions, and even your lifestyle WILL come under one day. because its plain and simple. everyone's different. and your opinion isn't universal law."
This is where some dumb blonde christian bimbo and some Muslim fresh off the boat fuckbag attempt to interrupt me. The professor tells them to be quiet and let me finish.
I continue with "Just because some one insults you, or your religion does not mean you have the right to attack and injure, or kill these people. You are EXPECTED as an ADULT. to have the mental capacity, self control and RIGHT to ignore those who attack your beliefs. you have the power to just simply not read anything that disagrees with you. you dont have to spend your money to buy a magazine that you know directly attacks your opinion. no ones holding a gun to your head and demanding you read something that offends you to the point that you feel you need to murder others. No ones demanding that you drop your lifestyle and adopt theirs. But the big message being. As an adult you are expected to know how to walk away from a situation you don't want to be in especially something as minor as a difference in opinion"
I felt pretty fucking good after my rant. and of course i thought i just obliterated all those uneducated "assault anyone who doesnt agree with you" children.
after that the whole class goes into a "response frenzy" Who can guess how many people agreed with me?
If you guessed anything above zero, you're wrong. apparently i was the only one comfortable enough with speaking that has the opinion that you should have the capacity as an adult to just walk away.
And to the bitch who said "You shouldn't walk away and ignore them, they should understand that their actions and opinions have consequences and be ready for whatever you do after"
For a class about teaching you to think critically, and understand that the world is different from you there are by far some of the stupidest people i have ever had the disadvantage of meeting here.
