SO HERE WE ARE with a new home for SynS!

Why a new home? Because the original Synchronised Screaming was flagged as explicit (wtf?) and Tumblr has thus far ignored all requests for unblocking no matter how many we send (and we’ve sent a lot). We’re not about to let SynS be taken from us, so this is where we find ourselves now - with a new blog and a fresh start and a hearty BITE US to Tumblr.

Nothing’s changed but the name and URL, so follow us here (you know you want to) for more of the same.

Prompt Call - Sort of!

Since I miss SynS but can’t tell if it’s possible to submit prompts to a blocked blog, let’s run a flashfic drabble week on Saturday - all you need is a set of four prompt words (or multiple sets if you’re so inclined) to share with the rest of chat at the usual time. Fills can be posted to your own blogs and we’ll reblog them here as a workaround for the time being.

Party of Two

So months ago we did a “remix” theme over at @synchronisedscreaming, (which is STILL being blocked by Tumblr’s filters, come ON) and I apparently started this one, wrote a lot of it, and never quite finished. I discovered it a few days ago and decided to finish it. The story it’s based on is All Dolled Up by @vefanyar, and is written from Lalli’s POV instead of Sigrun’s.

“Oooh! Doesn’t it look amazing?”

Lalli stepped to the side, dodging Tuuri’s hand as she reached for him. She’d never outgrown the habit of grabbing whoever was nearby when she got excited, and right now it was more than Lalli could handle. “It’s so BIG! And fancy, and so many people!”

All of which was true, and Lalli couldn’t understand why Tuuri thought that was a good thing. He’d protested the dress uniform—it was stupid, no one wore such things in Keuruu—but Tuuri had nagged, and argued, and eventually promised him cookies to get him to wear it. The tunic scratched and had too much embroidery, and the shiny, stiff boots would be useless for scouting. The whole room was like that: too new, too fancy to be useful. And there were far too many people.

As Tuuri kept talking about the decorations, Lalli backed away. No one would notice if he left. If he could get to the hallway—

“Lalli, what are you doing?” Shit. Tuuri had noticed. “You can’t leave! The party’s barely gotten started, we haven’t even found the others yet. Don’t you want to see everyone all dressed up? Emil’s been talking about his outfit for days.”

Lalli grimaced. He did want to see Emil. He’d tried to see him earlier, but when he’d stopped outside the door to Emil’s room, he’d heard Sigrun and Emil chattering away like songbirds, too fast to understand. So instead he’d gone out the window and sat in a sheltered corner of the roof until Tuuri hunted him down.

“I don’t care about his stupid clothes,” Lalli said. Emil didn’t need to dress up. Lalli liked him just fine in a dirty uniform with troll guts in his hair.

“Oh yeah?” Tuuri sounded like she was smiling. “Go ahead and tell him that, then.”

Lalli turned to scowl at her and saw what she meant: the others had arrived. The captain came over and ruffled Tuuri’s hair, saying something that made her blush and stammer a reply. The really tall, really stupid one was staring at the room with his mouth open, and it didn’t matter what the medic was doing because he stepped aside and there was Emil.

It's True

Lalli - All cats love boxes

When he returns to the sleeping quarters of the barracks, he finds that Lalli has taken the box from the supply room and dragged it closer to the heating stove. This is the seat he has chosen, just far away enough to be safe, just close enough to enjoy the warmth. His feline eyes peek out over the top edge of the box. They’re alight with the dancing of the flames; the effect is rather eerie, in that charming way Lalli tends to manage.

Emil comes to crouch beside him at the fire.

“There are more comfortable places to sit, you know,” he tells Lalli in Swedish. Though he imagines that it makes no difference what language he employs. He pats the box and tries his best in Finnish, which amounts to roughly: “…good? Not good?”

Lalli watches the fire glow.

“It…fits,” he says, at long last, in halting Swedish. “I sits.”

Emil/Lalli - You’re like lightning in a bottle

Onni’s shouting is becoming harder and harder to understand, more tinted with the dialect of the outer settlements. Lalli is staring at his feet, ignoring the wires that drip from the seams in his arms. The hydraulic muscles beat lazily, movements Emil supposes he himself takes for granted. He adjusts his jacket so it sits more securely over Lalli’s shoulders. Then he buttons it, just for good measure.

“Come, let’s get you some coffee or something,” Emil tells him. He’s bound to rust waiting at the rate Onni’s going. “Get warmed up a little.”

Lalli isn’t responsive, but then, he rarely is. Emil reaches out to tuck one of the wires back into Lalli’s forearm.

It’s like static, the way something seems to snap through him. Lalli starts– and shivers.

Poor thing. He must be freezing. Off to the nearest coffee pot, then.

So we've noticed two things lately.

A) The themes we post aren't getting a lot of response in terms of prompts. B) We're starting to run out of theme ideas.

So this is where you come in. If you have ideas for themes you'd like to see us use, please feel free to send them to us and we'll add them to the (very short, eek) list.
