I wanted to apologize to those of you who listen to this for it taking us so long to get the next episode out. There was some recording issues and then both Maddie and I were busy and now I'm in the middle of moving house. It should hopefully be up soon though.
Dr. Campbell meets AI's new team member, a psychologist called Jessica Ingram.
They met through a meeting. Initially, Nev had been suspicious. Bringing someone new into a project the nature of which demanded confidentiality and utmost secrecy was almost too risky to comprehend. It hadn't been her idea, either. Frankly, she'd been vehemently against the proposal until she'd been introduced to her new colleague, and even then her hesitance lingered. Andy needed to be evaluated, yes, but her mind functioned differently from a normal human being's on a fundamental level, even if the higher workings of her AI were advanced enough for there to be no noticeable difference in her behaviour and ability. If anything, it was a programmer who should have been briefed, not someone whose experience lay with organics.
She was professional, at least, and well educated. She eluded calm, with stoic features and an organized look, her clothes neat and her light hair pulled into a bun at the base of her skull. Nev shook her hand with a prim smile and received a small nod in response.
“Jessica Ingram,” she said, her voice curt almost to the point of rudeness.
“Neveah Campbell,” Nev replied, dropping her hand away. The doctor cocked her head to the side.
“An interesting name,” she commented.
“My parents are interesting people,” Nev responded, and indicated for Jessica to have a seat. She followed suit. “As you are no doubt aware, nothing about this project, whether it be spoken inside or outside of these walls is to be shared with anyone who does not have the correct, proper clearance. We use very secure communication networks for those away from this building.”
“I am fully aware of what the term 'confidentiality' entails,” Jessica replied, folding her hands on the table top. Nev's jaw tightened. She cleared her throat.
“Andy reports directly to me,” she explained. “I'll forward what I deem necessary to you, you will evaluate, and send your reports back to me.”
“You refer to 'her' by a name, and not by a tag?” Jessica asked. “How curious.”
“It was a part of the relationship building process,” Nev responded firmly, “and she could hardly go to university without one.”
“It's curious that you refer to her by one,” Jessica clarified.
“You are not here to evaluate me,” Nev said sharply. She handed over a folder, carefully marked and sealed. “These are the records of Andy's tests and simulations. Any more relevant information will be passed onto you accordingly. If you have any questions pertaining to her or to the experiment as a whole, you will find my contact information enclosed.” Nev stood stiffly, brushing her hands down her skirt. “Thank you for your participation. Remember that this is the epitome of top secret. Good day, Dr. Ingram.” Head high, she strode from the conference room, leaving a bemused Jessica in her wake.
The first episode of the podcast series Synthetic Elements, where Doctor Neveah Campbell (voiced by our very own assassinslover) sets out the mission statement for Aberforth Intellectuals' latest project -- Andy, a young android, who will be placed in a local college to see if she can pass as human.
