As a human I cared deeply for people, how they felt. If they were hurting I felt their pain and I felt guilty if I was the one who caused it and as a vampire all of that got… magnified.

Why delena are good
Okay so I see so many posts hating on delena, don’t get me wrong, I can see why but let me explain why delena work. What really got me going with this was this post (x).
Damon did shit, he did some stuff he will never ever be proud of. Why did he do this? He stopped caring. (Anybody would if their immortal for hundreds of years) Every time Damon wanted to care, the people who he cared for didn’t feel the same. They always choose his brother. Damon had nothing for a long time (Yes he had Stefan, but at that time they weren’t talking) but when he saw Elena, that spark of hope came back into his life, he fell in love. He saw someone who was everything he loved. But he didn’t know how to deal with it so he destroyed everything, it’s what he does, because he’s taught himself that it’s the only thing he can do. Finding out that Elena loved him, it changed him. For the first time, somebody loved him. They wanted him. They chose him. Damon being Damon still believed he couldn’t be what she wanted. But he really could. Through out the series he changes. Slowly he starts doing good, helping people. Elena brought that out of him. Without her he probably would have never changed. And Damon, he brought out the strength in her. Something she had but never showed. He allowed her to embrace it.
What really annoys me is that when it comes to Damon, people are quick to find the faults and hate him for what he’s done. However with Stefan, everyone seems to think he’s perfect. But who killed hundreds of innocent people for years? Stefan. He was no different to Damon in that way, he just hid that part of him where as Damon hid the good part of him.
Going back to this post (x) the reason why Elena says “I can’t live without him” even though she continued to live when others whom she loved died was because if she lost Damon she would loose everyone. Each time she lost someone she loved whether it was her parents, brother, friends, she always had someone else to care for, to love. But if she lost Damon then almost everyone would be gone. She’d loose Stefan too if Damon died because Stefan would most likely turn off his emotions (which again like damon he does because he doesn’t want to care)
What you’ve got to remember is Damon is the love of Elena’s life. I know most of us haven’t experienced that but loosing anyone who you loved that much would make it hard to live. When you’re in love, the bad things, they become less important because the good things shine though. Also remember they are vampires, they’re never going to be perfect because it’s in their nature to kill.
One last thing; it’s a T.V. Show, it’s not real.
