Just Stop This Nonsense Already...
Sorry about the title, I just needed to get it out of my system since I am genuinely tired of having to debunk the same old and irrelevant argument time and time again. This topic has been discussed numerous times and the people claiming it have lost the debate over and over and over and over again, yet they keep using the same argument.
Anyway, a good friend of mine has sent me the following question, and I thought I’d respond to it here

It’s there but I’m too lazy to look it up and link it.)
Anyway, to answer the first question: no. Booth Buddies was not fan service. Granted, it wasn’t the best way of executing the inevitable Starco kiss, but meh, the writers are pretty inept when it comes to drama and romance, so we’ll ignore this. Anyway, the episode and the kiss were a culmination of the mutual feelings that were developed over the course of 3 seasons, and essentially marked a point of no return for the two, making it more than clear that their ‘friendship’ has progressed way beyond a mere platonic friendship (not that it was platonic to begin with) and basically only served to confirm that which was obvious from the start. Calling it ‘fan service’ basically means denying all of the relationship buildup, which is obviously an absurd thing to do.
And anyway, I would normally end it at this point, but since it’s Jess-the-vampire we’re talking about, I can’t help but hammer a few nails into the coffin while I’m at it.
The statement ‘Star and Marco both repeatibly (nice spelling, btw) treating their friends, partners and family like crap over each other’ is flawed on numerous levels:
In Star’s case, she has hardly been treating her friends like crap, her relationship with her parents is as good as always and she has been treating Tom nicely, but she can’t force herself to love him and demanding as much is plain silly. I’ll get to this last point in a few moments.
As for Marco, I’ll have to make a few bullet points:
-If we’re referring to the people on Earth, he isn’t even there anymore since he went on exchange and he was nice to them while he was there.
-If we’re referring to Kelly, well, he’s been nice to her and helped her get over her breakup with Tad or Ted or whatever, so saying he’s been treating her poorly is absurd.
-If we mean Hekapoo, then we need to analyze the situation before jumping to any rash and biassed conclusions, as Jess has done with this statement; Marco kept keeping her until the very end and their friendship was strong and solid, so saying that he ‘treated her like crap’ is absurd.
“Oh! But he broke off his friendship for Star! So Jess is right! In yo face, jolleIQ! Hahahahahaha!”
Wow, you sure got me… *sigh* get some help…
He knew that Star would be in danger and he wanted to protect her and keep her safe, and if someone resents him for that, then I don’t know what to say to that person. Anyway, it’s not like he spat in Hekapoo’s face and broke off their friendship; he simply told her that he wants to keep Star safe and she simply made it clear that they can’t work together since it could get both of them in trouble if someone finds out that she knowingly allowed him to do so, which goes against the rules. There was no ‘right’ solution and he simply chose the one that didn’t involve Star becoming a lab rat. Imagine this: you have a really good friend who unintentionally or unknowingly did something bad (Star) and a police officer you personally know found out (Hekapoo) and you had the option to have your friend be arrested or plead to the officer to forgive them. Which option would you pick? If it’s the latter, then you must be some shitty friend…
-If we’re talking about Tom, which I’m 99.99% convinced that Jess is, then this still doesn’t validate the argument. Yes, Marco and Star kissed in the booth behind Tom’s back which wasn’t fair towards Tom. Nobody is saying otherwise. However, Marco thought it was the only way to get them out and it’s not like he went and boasted about it. He confessed it to Tom and felt sorry for doing it, and he made no further advances on Star. Marco knows he screwed up and while that still doesn’t make it right, he has tried staying on good terms with Tom despite what he’s done. Also, even after Marco had realised his true feelings for Star, he allowed her and Tom to have their alone time, he even tried giving Tom advice on how to better their shallow relationship, and he made up a dumb excuse in ‘Is Another Mystery’ just because Tom wanted him to. In what world is this treating Tom like crap, exactly?
-If we’re talking about Janna… we don’t have anything to talk about. They’re cool as always.
As for the partners, Marco tried his hardest to make things work with Jackie, but it was she who realised that his heart belonged to Star and not her. It definitely sucked for her, but that doesn’t deny the fact that Marco wanted to make it work, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and saying he treated her poorly is flat-out lying.
As for his family, Marco was caught up in his squire duties, which is typical of his character, but once he realised that he needed to be there more, he promised that he would not allow himself to forget his family like that again. In short, he’s learned from the mistake, and that’s good for him; as long as he upholds his promise, this argument fails as well.
Moving on, “Having the kiss forced by an older man.”
No. He didn’t hold a gun up to their heads and said ‘kiss or else!’
He put them in a booth and they kissed. That’s it. You can say that he tricked them to initiate the kiss or that he manipulated the circumstances to encourage them, but that’s as far as you can go.
“That wasn’t consensual.”
… Are we even watching the same show? The kiss was consensual. They gazed into one another’s eyes, closed them, and Star leaned in and then melted into the kiss, and once it was over, she gazed at Marco with starstruck eyes. It was only after she realised that she’d enjoyed it that panic struck her since she knew that she shouldn’t have enjoyed or melted into it. If you say that it wasn’t consensual, not only are you going against all of the evidence, but you are outright lying about it simply because it doesn’t fit your narrative. I have an entire post somewhere debunking this entire argument, if I ever find it I’ll link it.
Not arguably, it was cheating; Star leaned in and recuperated the kiss that she clearly enjoyed. So yeah, it was cheating. Thanks for having the decency to admit that the kiss was consensual, maybe there is hope for you :)
Ok, this does it for the picture, not onto the rest of the conversation.
If someone is able to efficiently translate English to Spanish and vice-versa, I’d gladly join the Spanish debates and debunk their fallacious claims. I have no problems doing so, so if anyone feels up for it, contact me.
As for your last point, the radical anti-Starco shippers are known for being irrational and beyond reason even when the facts disprove their claims (I mean, just look at Jess-the-vampire) but I will admit that the radical Starco shippers are no better; they, too, attack every ship and I was ashamed when they attacked Jackie for ‘staling Marco from Star’ when he was not her property. It goes both ways, and I simply wish that there could be more reasonable people in the svtfoe fandom who draw conclusions rationally and based on evidence. And by this, I don’t mean ‘only ship Starco’ because I respect the people who ship other pairings; it is their right to have personal preferences and nobody can say otherwise. However, when people lie and manipulate reality to convince others that their fallacious claims are the only true ones, as Jess does, that’s where I draw the line and those are the people I oppose. Were such people to say that they don’t like Starco, I would say nothing except “Oh, alright.”
But when they spread lies and make up ‘facts’ just to make a ship, any ship, seem bad, that is when I say “No, you are wrong. Very wrong, and here’s why…”
Anyway, this should just about wrap things up.
