Ancestry.com discovered that the actor, who plays the title role in BBC’s Sherlock, shares a distant great-grandfather with Doyle, the author who created the original Sherlock Holmes. They also learned Cumberbatch is related to cryptanalyst Alan Turing, who he snagged a 2015 Oscar nomination for portraying in The Imitation Game. Source
