(tw as this part mentions suicide) Honestly, i can't believe i have to say this with how this fandom is treating Goose. Sorry if this looks like i'm defending her but honestly speaking, this fandom aren't helping her case (especially when that one user tagged her in a post where they talked about taking their life because of the "toxicity" going on (that "toxicity" in question being people criticizing her and wanting to hold her accountable) like, bro, you say you're worried for her mental stability and you add the part where you say you want to take your life where she could see it??? đ yeah, way to go to make her feel worse. /s)
"Gooseworx wanted this theatre to happen!" no offense to this fandom but judging by her response, i'm pretty sure even she herself didn't want this whole theatre release to happen in the first place, as she said "i just wanted to make a show for fun".
Meaning she wasn't asking for popularity, she just wanted to have some fun making a show, a theatre release wasn't necessary for her.
Speaking of that, why Glitch even thought about it if their first concern were the leaks?? You're telling me these guys were so busy making it happen all this time, just for the idea of a leak came to their minds and that's when they realize "damn, wait- maybe this isn't a good idea to make it global"?
"It's just them being unprofessional" you mean to tell me it's been like, what? 3-4 years since Kevin talked about the mismanagement going on at the studio and yet, he and the others didn't bother to improve their professionalism in order to make the company feel safe? managed properly?
With the allegations going on, i won't be surprised if even Gooseworx was also mistreated by them.
This ask goes in a multitude of directions.
This isn't a space where I feel like making excuses for Gooseworx or defending her in any capacity. All parties involved were grown adults, and they should be treated as such. There is no such thing as a person who "makes a show for fun" and said show is then picked up by a company with the capability to release that show into a global market. Just because a person says something, doesn't make it true, and I've already talked about the fact that this particular SECTION of the indie industry is largely comprised of the same few individuals, so I often take their comments about the industry as a whole with a grain of salt.
To be honest, the parasocial attitude surrounding Gooseworx is largely her own fault, as well as the writing of the show itself attracting specific demographics of people. There are also many factors involved, namely racism and a very flimsy concept of social justice at best, that lead people to feeling entitled to her show proceedings and her feelings, because it directly contributes to their very limited worldviews. Once again, while it may be possible that Gooseworx might also be a victim to Glitch's malpractice as a company, any of their other victims could've told you that. Many of the Black people already feeling uncomfortable by Glitch's evident refusal to do background checks on who they work with could have told you that. I don't see why Gooseworx needs to be treated as more important.
I find it hard to extend my sympathies to most of the people involved in this situation, other than the people that were victims to Gooseworx's and Glitch's overt racism, because this situation is one that feeds itself. At the end of the day, most of everyone's concerns are not actually rooted in truly changing the status quo and making this space one where Black and POC creators/consumers feel comfortable so I don't give a damn.
