compared to your eyes nothing shines quite as bright
In all seriousness, as hella good as the fire MV was, there’s something super important that’s happening that I’m not seeing people talk about a lot on my dash.
Distribution.
As much as I adore the group, in the past it’s been a little disappointing to see how much focus is put certain members. Vocally, Jungkook and Jimin are primarily used. Hoseok, JImin, and Jungkook are utilized as dancers. Namjoon usually has most of the rap parts, and occasionally Yoongi will stack up on lines too. Unfortunately, the members rarely get a chance to shine if they aren’t one of the ‘elites’ in their specific talent.
The point is, this group hasn’t ever really been balanced in terms of distribution. But that’s starting to change, and I especially noticed it in Fire.
Did you see Yoongi dancing? He absolutely killed it, and we rarely ever get a chance to see him dance like he danced in that MV. Tae, too–he was in the center for a huge chunk of the choreography, and he positively slayed.
Jin got more lines in this song than he ever has before, almost more than even Jungkook. He sounded fantastic and really got a chance to prove his talent. In past songs he’s rarely gotten more than two or three lines, but Fire heavily featured his vocal abilities.
And Hoseok. It’s got to be pretty nerve-wracking being in a group with veteran rappers like Namjoon and Yoongi, and we don’t see Hosoek featured as heavily in the title songs. But this time around he had the opening rap, and he had even line distribution with Yoongi and Namjoon.
It’s about time this happened. The group has so much untapped talent from members who aren’t featured as heavily. This song/MV did what the group should have been doing from the start, and it focused on EVERY member, not just the vocal/dance/rap leaders. And it so paid off–Fire was undeniably incredible and so well-balanced.
I’m so proud of them and happy for them.
