"Shhh, quiet. Come with me," he whispered, leaning in close enough that he could keep his voice from traveling as much as possible. If they weren't quick and quiet, they were dead.

It was one thing to provide cover for your band of survivors in the bitter cold with brutal monsters (vampires?!) on your ass, but ducking into a building and nearly plowing into another person? So beyond okay.
"Jeeesus!" he hissed, initially a little louder and then immediately quieting his tone. If they'd heard him... "Have you been hiding in here?"

headcanon .01 - harder and harder to breathe
BARROW
Eben is a fairly severe asthmatic, a condition that isn't helped by the cold. He's always kept an inhaler on him at all times and will typically end up using it after extremely stressful or physically strenuous events. With the town under attack, 'extremely stressful' and 'physically strenuous' have become regular occurrences, and somewhere along the line, he lost his inhaler. Asthma attacks have to be avoided, or he just does his best to ride them out until he can get another, if he can.
POST-BARROW
The vampire disease, along with granting him the strength, speed and durability to save the last survivors of Barrow, cured him of his asthma problem.
