@frightfear from here:
She had to step out. “Ya mean she saw the amount of work and ditched ya ‘ta go play,” Hiyori snorted at the poor boy. She felt a teensy bit sorry for him. Paperwork had never really been her strong suit- she was perfectly capable of it, but didn’t like the tedious and repetitive nature of it. Mashiro struggled to focus on one thing at a time. She liked many things and could hold them all in her head but her focus shifted rapidly.
The girl leaned against the doorframe, still taken aback by the nostalgia of the office briefly. It had been such a long time ago. Maybe Hiyori does miss the action. The anticipation. The structure. The familiarity. Her home. But she doesn’t miss anything else about being a shinigami.
And she certainly does not miss Tousen or the rest of them. The boy is already jumping towards the guy’s defence, even though Hiyori hasn’t said anything bad about him. She’s frowning now. Is this what Kensei has to deal with? No wonder he looked like he was about to have an aneurysm. This kid was what people in the living world called an apologist. She does not blame him. Kaname Tousen had always portrayed himself very genteel and sweet and kind until Kensei’s back ran into his zanpakuto. And her own torso just happened to run into his zanpakuto as well. Clearly, he was a pacifist. They just kept running into his way of justice. Yep.
Maybe she was slightly bitter (read as: a lot). But she does not blame Shuuhei. A young man, groomed, just like the rest of the golden trio into being pawns for Aizen and his side pieces. Though… Hiyori was also used as a pawn. It was a humiliating feeling. She is glad that this kid seems to have made peace with it (?).
Oh. No. No. He has not.
Hiyori blinks, wide eyes surveying him with silent horror… and a painful sort of understanding. Mashiro and Kensei had known Tousen. But then… so had this boy. This one had served under Tousen, been taught many things by him and then… been abandoned by him. Like he had been nothing.
Hiyori could relate hard. It was worse for Hisagi Shuuhei because his captain had betrayed Soul Society and he had to fight him.
“I never said he was a fool. I just- - listen kid, yer allowed ‘ta like the Tousen that ya knew. But don’t expect us ‘ta sympathise or love him back. He followed Aizen willingly. He was, outta all of us, the one truly immune ‘ta his zanpakuto. So he was not led blindly. He followed Aizen with eyes wide open.”
“But ya can’t help being loyal ‘ta him and all the techniques he taught ya. The way he made ya a shinigami. Ya stand like him, ya know that?”
