thought about hpau Tor on the bus and almost missed my stop from spacing out. their hp canon is kind of similar to their default one. Tor's father is a wizard, but hid his heritage from his muggle fiance out of love and respect for her wishes of having a normal life. but the truth came out after Tor was born, when it became quite clear that they had inherited magical abilities. their mother couldn't handle the news or that her fiance had been lying to her about such a big part of himself. she abandoned her lover and child and wasn't heard from. Tor's father was heartbroken and barely interacted with their child, gladly passing them off once Tor received an invitation to attend Hogwarts. Tor was sorted into Ravenclaw and they had a rather unremarkable academic career, save for having some of the highest marks in divination that the school had seen. once they graduated, they opened a modest fortune-telling shop. their shop gained immense popularity after Tor served a celebrity client, who raved about the accurate, no-nonsense predictions that Tor gave. they soon catered to a wide variety of important wizarding folk, gaining the attention of their alma mater. Tor was offered a position as a divination professor (with the promise that the school's connections would allow them to study important texts and ancient artifacts that they could not get their hands on). they were reluctant due to their inexperience with children, but ultimately accepted the position. Tor proved to be an unconventional teacher and their strange mannerisms and unreliability has threatened their position multiple times. but their competence in the subject cannot be contested. their knowledge and respect for divination comes through in their serious lessons. while students may not have the same passion, they do walk away from Tor's classes with a definite understanding of it.
