aside from his parents and yeri, jaehyun hadn’t told anyone else about the debut. and he knows that they’d been told to keep the debut plans a secret for now, still, he believes that there are people that he owes the truth too, and juyeon is one of them.

despite him being a a few years juyeon’s senior in royal, they’re both the same age and they’d hit it off quite well. having someone the same age as him in royal, a friend, was something that jaehyun appreciated. of course, he would’ve loved to debut with juyeon, yet somehow royal had lined the debut this way and jaehyun could only give juyeon an explanation as to why he hadn’t been around as much anymore.

he’d invited juyeon out for dinner after practice, saying that it had been a while since the both of them had gotten together to simply just hang out (and that was true). thankfully, there aren’t many people around and they’d gotten a seat further away from anyone. looking at juyeon, he smiles. “there’s something i haven’t told you yet,” he begins. “it’s... actually supposed to be a big secret, i’m not supposed to tell anyone but... i have to tell you, you’re a close friend to me.”

the truth

the news of debut is still something that jaehyun can’t quite believe, it had taken a while for it to finally settle and even then, jaehyun’s still overwhelmed with emotions. he’s debuting, after all these years. royal’s finally decided to debut him in a group and... it’s unreal.

though despite all his emotions, he’s aware that there are a few things that he’d need to do first, and among them it’s talking to wonwoo. he’s known the boy for a while now, has known wonwoo since either of them had entered royal and now he was going to debut with him. it’s something that jaehyun doesn’t take for granted, it’s not everyday you get to debut with someone you’ve clicked so well with for so long.

jaehyun decides though, that since they’re debuting together, wonwoo deserves to know the truth. something he’d kept a secret for almost three years now and that only two of the other members know of. he’ll need to tell wonwoo of his current relationship status with yeri; it had always been his intention to anyway, to let wonwoo know of this one day. if anyone deserves to know the truth, it’s wonwoo.

“hey, won,” he says, walking towards the boy when he notices that they’re the only two left in the practice room. “can i talk to you?” he asks, and he’s visibly a little less composed than he usually is. “there’s... something i have to tell you.”

he still couldn’t quite believe it; everything feels so genuinely unreal and jaehyun hadn’t quite known how to react when they’d told him he would be debuting. when they told him the name of his group... a name. he could put a name to the group he’d be debuting in. 

sure he’d been training for years, but despite always working and working towards debut, now that he was here, he wasn’t quite sure if it was real. all these years he’d spent in royal, the disapproving looks of his father, the lack of contact between the two when jaehyun had finally told him that no, he wouldn’t go overseas to study, that he’d stay here in korea, to train, to one day debut. and now here he was, with a group to his name.

it’s a lot to think about and jaehyun had slowly walked off to an empty practice room, overwhelmed by his own thoughts. he’d love to talk to the other boys but whether he liked it or not, jaehyun had always tried to present himself as a guy that had his life together. yet now, he wasn’t sure what to do because this was something he’d wanted for so long, he didn’t think he’d be able to keep composed in front of the younger members.

he sits in the practice room, staring at his hands in disbelief. it’s happening, i’m debuting. he continues staring, too busy in his own thoughts to notice anyone coming in.

the script

it’s exciting, it really is. to be part of a project like this, and to have a role. it’s kind of amazing. he’d had no idea what to expect when they’d been told to audition for an acting opportunity and now here he was, about to act in a webdrama. 

jaehyun had been given the role of an idol member, known to be ‘perfect’ with ‘great visuals’. to quote, “the perfect guy”. it’s all good, jaehyun thinks he’d do pretty well with a role like this and then he reads the script. sure, his character is in depth, sure jaehyun’s character is secretly ‘evil’ and has lost someone he loved, thus the whole you’re just like me!!! thing he has going on. sure, that’s all cool.

it’s finally the day to film the first episode, and sure, jaehyun is excited. sure... but, for a lack of better way to describe it, he gets his balls elbowed. he gets it elbowed on the first episode. when he’d first read the script, his mouth had been agape, and he’d even wondered if this was necessary. this was going to follow him throughout his whole career. and now here he was, about to film it. 

he sits on the chair, waiting to be called and readies himself. and well, ultimately his groin.

sneak in

this was not planned. jaehyun most definitely did not decide to walk into the royal building, hoodie wet after getting caught in the rain, with a literal kitten in his bag. it goes without saying that pets are probably not allowed in the building and jaehyun’s well aware of that but technically this kitten wasn’t his pet and well... how could he leave it? 

he’d been on the way to training when he’d heard loud meowing and caught sight of a tiny kitten left in a box, soaked and looking completely helpless. he had no idea how anyone could have the heart to leave a kitten in a box during such a heavy rain –– or ever, for that matter. after contemplating for a few minutes, he decided to do the only plausible thing he could think of. he gently grabbed the kitten and placed it in his bag, ensuring that it was comfortable there and not too packed for the little guy. 

and now he wasn’t sure what to do. because what do you usually do in situations like these? he looks around the building and when he spots baekhyun, he lets out the loudest sigh of relief. baekhyun! jaehyun could count on him. 

“hyung!” he says, and he walks over to baekhyun, face looking worried. “i need to show you something. but before i do, you need to promise me you won’t get mad. okay? don’t get mad hyung, seriously,” he says. he takes a deep breath and unzips his bag even more, revealing the kitten. “i sort of... brought a friend here,” he says, looking around to make sure nobody could see the both of them. “before you nag at me,” he begins, “it was raining really heavily and in my defense, i couldn’t leave him out there hyung! but now i don’t know what to do!”

throughout his time in royal, jaehyun’s went from being the youngest male trainee, to more or less in the ‘hyung’ line. his age had him somewhere between. still, he’d never actually had a boy his age in royal before, which now that he thought about it, was funny in it’s own way. and also a little lonely.

when he heard about the new boy, a fellow 98 liner as well, jaehyun had been more curious than anything. he wondered what the boy was like, if he and jaehyun would actually get along –– and a large part of him hoped that they would. after all, it would be nice to have a friend here.

from what he’s observed so far, juyeon’s nice and his chill nature is something that jaehyun actually appreciates. “hey,” he says, smiling at the boy, “i got you a sandwich from the canteen.”

dance. jaehyun’s never been overly confident about his dancing. if anything, he knows that he isn’t exactly the best dancer royal has to offer, so to have an evaluation where it’s so heavily focused on dancing... jaehyun isn’t exactly ecstatic about it. that and the added fact that they have to catch cameras.

he catches lisa during their lunch break and as usual, he sits opposite her. “i think my bones are going to hate me,” he says, “muscles too.” he has to get used to tough dances, but he isn’t exactly a fan of them as well. “i have no idea how i’m gonna have to catch all those cameras.”

picking up an apple, he pretends to use it as a camera. “look here! now here! smile here!” he says, as though a camera man, before he takes a bite of the camera. “what song are you guys doing for this month?” he asks.
