SHIRAISHI MAI, it is time to make our mark on the city of Busan. By the end of the week, all of Busan—later the world—will know of us, of our power, of who is honestly the ones at power here in this upcoming war. Your mission is simple — diversion. Starting from the opposite end of the city at the military outpost, your only goal is to set as much destruction and chaos onto the military force as possible. Do not be afraid to go wild — the objective of this is to show them what we’re capable of—how helpless they are.
She doesn't quite understand why herself, but the first feeling she has is one of relief when she hears about her mission. Maybe it's because there's the implication that she won't be harming her friends back in Xavier through this ordeal or maybe it's because even if she tried so gallantly to prove she hates the citizens of Busan and humans in general, watching them scream and squirm to their inevitable deaths still makes her want to curl and hurl in disgust. It’ll take time for her to adjust. Not that the military weren't citizens but she manages to convince herself that they were technically all the more dangerous than regular civilians and therefore need to be destroyed to the best of her ability – which would be rather well. Knowing that she had been assigned to start from an outpost where there would be less people at first, only further encouraged her that what she'll be doing is the right thing without 'too much harm'. Especially if it's to protect her kind from anymore discrimination. If humans don't want to love them then let the humans fear them.
Convincing herself mentally is one thing - how easily she'd been able to mentally prepare herself does send a shiver down her spine - but figuring out a plan that would leave her as intact as possible is another thing. Or, she could just rush blindly into it and hope she comes out unscathed. She's done that enough times now and come out of it in one piece that the danger of winging something now feels so almost insignificant. Besides, if her last fights indicated anything, reading her opponents once thrown into the chaos was more important than following some plan. She can almost hear her past self, one that always planned everything carefully, scolding her current self in horror. But that past Shiraishi Mai had thought her parents to be the strongest and worst nemesis she could ever meet in her life. Her past self was naive and foolish to how cruel the world could truly be. Before all those ‘lady’ actions she had learnt, she had to survive.
When the day comes, she tells herself she’s ready. Her head stays high, eyes staring straight ahead, mouth set in a straight line and fingers clawing at her leggings absentmindedly a few times before they relax by her side. Closing onto the military outpost had been surprisingly easy – there’s a lack of scouts much to her surprise. She glances up at the high towering fence, eyes narrowing slightly at the spiraling coiled wires that would cut and zap all people who dare to climb. That somewhat solves her question from earlier; the military was definitely fine with people nearing but not entering. No normal human could possibly climb it without hurting themselves. But she, she could do it.
"Who's there?" A sharp stern voice breaks the silence. She turns to face the owner of the voice, eyes landing on two soldiers walking toward her. A reflexive smiles, an eerie reaction when facing two gunned man who don't seem to fear to shoot.
Without her face mask covering the bottom half of her face and distorting her appearance, it doesn't take long for recognition to dawn on their face that she happens to be wanted. But the difference here between them is that she happens to be a mutant and since she’s prepared, she’s all the faster at reacting.
"You never noticed me and never will," she sings, the words smoothly rolling off her tongue. The effect is immediate; they turn away as if she was invisible and carry on with their little patrol. A few more seconds as she watches her back and it dawns on her that maybe she should've sang them to wreak havoc. A small sigh, it's too late now that she's told them to ignore her entire being.
She takes one more glance at the fence and at the rather desolated looking area beyond it. If she jumps over, she doesn’t know how far she’ll have to walk and she doesn’t know what sort of traps might be lying there for people who do manage to get over the hurdle of the fence. She wouldn’t want to find herself standing on a hidden mine bomb or something along those lines. Not a pleasant way to die.
Which simply means she has to fly in and not like some angel who’s tripped into too many paint buckets along the way. She will fly in just like a fenghuang does, a bird who sparkles like a rainbow under the sunlight and as she captures their attention as the rare creatures she is, she will then destroy and without a shard of mercy. Perfect for her, though she does chuckle a bit as she feels the familiar fluttering sensation course through her; the fenghuang was meant to be a symbol of peace and here she was giving it the name of destruction.
