Midday Matchmaker ~

Lunchtime at Konoha Academy. Frankly, the best time of the day, according to Ino's two friends: Shikamaru and Chouji.

However, since the pair of them had decided to skive school today (there was cross country running in the afternoon and the pair of them didn't want to do it), Ino was left to sit with nobody. Sakura was in the library and Karin was currently doing some experiments with their creepy chemistry teacher.

So it fell to Ino to find someone. Oh yes, the posh girl- Hinata. She was very quiet and arrived at the school with bodyguards. Why did they not hang out that much? Oh well, time to right those wrongs now.

Ino slid into a chair beside her and flashed her a winning smile. They chatted for a bit (mostly Ino filling her in on the details) and asked about her cousin, Hyuuga Neji.

"I hear that he likes someone. Is it true? Does he really like Tenten?" She leaned forwards eagerly, blue eyes glittering as Hinata finally opened her lips to answer-

Except the very girl they were talking about appeared into view. Tenten.

“Tenten, hiiii~” Ino waved at the girl. “Sit with us!”

Wedding Gift

When Tenten had gone shopping for her wedding gift she’d out of habit gone straight to the weapon store. A nicely made blade could make a great decorative piece anyway. As soon as she’d laid eyes on a particular katana she knew it was the perfect gift (at least in her opinion). She almost wanted to just get it for herself but she was here for a wedding gift, not for herself. She’d gotten the blade engraved with their initials as well. 

“Congratulations! May you two live a long and happy life together,” is what she’d written on an accompanying card. And as she’d arrived at the wedding she’d eagerly and excitedly left the long box on the gift table. Perhaps they’d let her borrow it to play a little; she’d be sure to return it in perfect condition.

Timeline: Post-wedding 

If there was one advantage to a ninja wedding, it was that they needn’t worry so about how they were supposed to bring all of the gifts home. All it took was a few scrolls a bit of know-how and they were done.

This time, Itachi set a long box on the dining room table, dark eyes curious as he examined the exterior. A single card was attached to it, written in what he now knew was one of their bridesmaid’s penmanship.

“Congratulations! May you two live a long and happy life together.”

How thoughtful.

Imagine his surprise when he lifted the lid off the box. An intricately decorated katana, with its blade gleaming proudly beneath its sheath. After surprise came a faint light of amusement, the elder Uchiha replacing the lid once more with a soft exhale.

This was possibly the most ninja-like gift they’ve received.

It was strangely comforting, flawed as it was, to learn that that world of theirs was not a dream. He still remembered his roots.

It would make a nice decorative piece- or perhaps they could put it to use. 

Ino was still eager to hone her swordsmanship skills.
