HEADCANON : because of his involvement with the serpents jug never makes the grades needed for a ‘good’ college && he has no interest in going to a junior/community college. the effort he should have channeled into his academics, were instead focused on keeping his dad, the serpents, && his town afloat. while fp preached wanting better for his son, he played an active part in pulling him down, keeping him from his full potential && instead putting him in a position to repeat the sins of his father.

ALRIGHT, so i love me some FP, don’t get me wrong BUT - - -

he speaks to his son in such a toxic way, something i’m sure has been happening the entirety of jug’s life. he made a point to make sure jughead KNEW he was the reason he decided not to retire from the serpents && the reason why he was drinking again. && most recently, he told jug that he would be the death of the serpents. in simple terms, jughead is hearing that HE is the reason why he will NEVER have a family, that he is what breaks them apart.

&& don’t forget we’re talking about a minor here, a minor that has seen his family fall apart, has been homeless, has joined a gang to find some sense of acceptance . . . && FP still puts so much blame on his teenage son’s shoulders, as if he’s meant to know or do any better than what he has been.
