Beaumont Ashcroft predates the fall of Pompeii, the death of Cleopatra, the great pyramids of Giza, and some even dare say she was alive when Athens was built. It is unknown exactly where the girl was born, if she was birthed by a human mother or the cosmos, but common supposition is that Beaumont grew up somewhere in ancient Greece. She, herself, doesn't talk about it; a mix of yearning for a life she can't never return to and genuine forgetfulness. It's been more than six thousand years — She says — Fuck if I know where I'm from. The world shifts and changes, borders are established, maps redrawn, memories lost. Sure, Bee remembers her childhood, the fateful night her life changed, the vivid smell of her mother's cooking — But she doesn't make a habit of talking about any of that.
Common misconception is that Bee is Death. She is not — on good days. Bee was born as the very first, original, green witch. From what she, and the family, have gathered, there were very few of them back in the day. A handful of six, to be exact. Magic has shifted and spread, became something fluid and beautiful — But, in a way, it can all be traced back to The Queen Bee and the five — as she calls them. She could make beautiful, plentiful, fields of flowers and crops bloom in minutes. Seconds, when she tuned her power. Powerful, but mortal. Until…
Life is unpredictable, people are cruel. Happiness is not mean to last forever.
All it took was a monster who could not accept a no. Humans can be extremely creative when making others suffer. It took Bee a week to die — A week of pain she cannot describe, of fear and utterly despair. When her last breath finally escaped her lips, her body was tossed in the ocean to never be found. But — The Gods took pity on her, Bee supposes. Athena, Demeter, Hera, Artemis, any of them must have been watching. Sure, all six of them got the gift of immortality, but Bee was the first, no? — The first to die, the first to wake up with blood on her mouth and wounds closing back together.
After, she became a guide of shorts — Helping lost souls cross over when they time come. She supposes that's where the misconception comes from. Sure, she is not Death, but she is always caught at the scene of the crime, isn't she? The Ferry-woman, Death, The Golden Girl — There has been a thousand of names for a girl who watched civilizations rise and fall. Out of her family, Bee remains the happiest one. She believes there's beauty to be found wherever she looks, loves life a little too much, and truly enjoys what she do.
Sure, immortality can be lonely and boring, but Bee finds way to keep herself entertained through the years. She has, however, not used her powers since her original death.
Bee's immortality is heavily inspired on The Old Guard (And so is the family) — She bleeds and hurts like any other human, but once she ‘dies’, she rises back up a few minutes later.
She is corporal and human, but, at times, Bee is nothing but an apparition — Especially during tragedies, her she is present to guide souls. When that happens, her physical body enters a trance, and it freezes in place.
She can bless people with immortality if she wants, but has one done it once — To Desdemona (@ldydths), which she lives to regret.
I have a few wanted connections for Bee that can be found here.
The Five — The other original five witches who were granted immortality.
The Life to her Death — A wife she has been married to for thousands of years. Someone whose ability has to do with life, but is the direct opposite of Bee; grumpy, angry, hates mortals, is done with the world. Only Milfs, please.
