Ash had gone after Julie to try to calm her down and get her to return to the party, but it hadn’t gone exactly as planned. Now he was less than sober and upset. He didn’t want to go back to the room, so he was wandering the hallway in search of a vending machine. He pulled his wallet from the pocket of his still dry swim trunks and grabbed a dollar, feeding it into the machine. The machine acted like it was going to accept the payment for a second before spitting it back out. Ash sighed but tried again, the machine repeating the process, “You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me,” he said to himself, “bullshit. son of a,” he trailed off as he kicked the machine and gave it a couple of smacks, he was about to shove it when he noticed someone coming his way. He cleared his throat, “Um, I think it’s broken...” he said, embarrassed that the other man had seen him act like that.
