Even though their relationship was still pretty complicated and nothing was clear between them Teddy still decided to go and find something to get her for Valentine’s Day. He was pretty new to all of this because so far he had never had anyone he even just as much as wanted to get something for that special day nor did he ever celebrate it before and considered it rather stupid. To him it still was just another day like every other but he wanted to do something nice for Gaeul and hoped that she would like his surprise.
After they had dinner he excused himself for a moment and used his ability to jump to his apartment where he had kept the things he got for her but returned back to her place shortly after. Clearing his throat he walked back into the living room and handed her the bag. “I’m really not good at this and I’ve never actually celebrated Valentine’s Day before but I thought it would be appropriate to get you something, so here you go.”
He actually had no idea what he could possibly get Gaeul because there wasn’t too much he knew about her yet, just a few things he picked up here and there. One thing he was certain about though was that she liked books and when he asked one of his female friends for advice, which she was more than surprised about, she suggested some book art. He wasn’t sure what exactly book art was but after searching on the internet he had a vague idea and went ahead and picked something he thought Gaeul would like.
Teddy also knew that she liked cats, she had two of them after all. Of course he wasn’t going to get her another cat but when he mentioned it to his female friend she made another suggestion, something to wear. He was pretty confident in his own style but he had absolutely no idea when it came to women’s clothes or what Gaeul would actually like. Without much hesitation he let his friend pick out a couple of things before he looked over them and decided what to get, once again hoping that Gaeul would actually like what he picked for her.
And as if all of that would’ve been enough he remembered that she mentioned that she’d rather get books than flowers for any special occasion he decided to get her a gift certificate worth ₩150,000 for the Shinsegae Mall in Seoul so she could either go get some books, clothes or whatever else her heart desired.
“Happy Valentine’s Day.” He said with a soft smile, anticipating her reaction.
Gaeul hadn’t expected anything for Valentine’s Day. For her, love and romance shouldn’t be celebrated just for one day but all year long and all those shops that pretended to celebrate love had only a commercial goal to make as much profit as possible. After all, when you were in love with someone, it didn’t matter whether it was February 14th or May 6th or whatever day of the year; almost every days should have felt like Valentines and she didn’t understand the concept but everyone was free to do what they wanted anyway.
And maybe she was pretty bitter because she still was spending a Valentine’s Day by herself. But that was okay. She had her books where true love happened, her cats that loved her and a lot of delicious food. February 14th or not, she’d take care of herself either way and spend it as a normal day because that was what it was for alone and lonely people.
If there was one person she knew would hate Valentine’s Day maybe almost as much as her, that would have to be Teddy but Gaeul thought nothing of it when she sent him a text to ask if he wanted to come over and keep her company. She wasn’t sure where they stood, their relationship was rather complicated from both of their sides and despite the obvious pull they had for the other, it seemed like they didn’t dare step over the line - and it was okay with her. She wasn’t sure that she was even able to get into a relationship at this moment, she had so much on her mind and her heart was still trying to heal and god, she was pretty sure that she was pregnant which didn’t help at all with her situation. She was close to a mental breakdown but luckily, Teddy arrived just in time to distract her.
Everything went well until after dinner. Hugging a pillow to her chest while they were watching some random show on television, she watched Teddy leave the room from the corner of her eyes and come back seconds later with hands full of bags. Well. That was clearly unexpected. Her eyes widened and she straightened up, her face turning red within seconds. He had bought her gifts. For Valentine’s Day. Although she knew that he was probably not the kind of person to do this he still... He still did it for her. Her heart fluttered in her chest and it felt like some broken pieces were sticking back together. She wasn’t completely healed yet but... Teddy was helping a lot in her recovery even if he didn’t know.
Taking the bags, she took out the gifts and a soft smile appeared on her lips at the sight of the art books while she ran her fingers over the letters. He definitely knew her and her tastes. Laughter bubbled up her throat at the sight of the sweaters and she glanced over at her cats that were currently sleeping, Mister Bubble curled protectively around Cassiopeia. She didn’t know what she was going to do with the gifts certificate but she knew that March 14th was supposed to be the day where girls offered boys something in return, like a second Valentine’s day and she made sure to use them well so she could buy Teddy nice gifts as well.
Getting up from the couch, she walked over to the man and pressed a light kiss to his cheek, her smile growing considerably with each passing second. “Thank you,” She murmured, her hand finding his to give it a gentle squeeze. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Teddy.”
