Σ(゚Д゚;): Have they ever sprained or broken their leg before? How about their arm? What was the story behind it?
Ohh boy. How about all of the above and more?
So once upon a time, many many many many years ago, Ragnar was a young mech. He was, as he is now, courageous and willing to drop everything for those in dire need of help. But in his youth, he was a little less restrained. Like, Smokescreen unrestrained.
Like most mechs his size, he is capable of incredible feats of strength. Especially as a Warbuild. Sometimes his cockiness got the better of him, and he’d return to the Guild with split lip plating and scuff marks. Mostly roughing around with the other young Knights. He came into creation as an adult mech, yes, but still rather young.
His restraint is attributed to his past experiences, especially when it comes to anger and impatience.
What happened was disastrous to say the least. Younger Knights were sent on quests, much like those of Arthurian Legend. Bringing back ‘relics,’ fighting beasts, etc. These beasts were very primitive Predacons/Insecticons, but also incredibly powerful. Over the millenia the species became smaller and more adapted to speed than sheer force. During Ragnar’s day, it took a team or two to bring down the beasts.
While not going into full detail, Ragnar attemtped to bring the beast down with an ill-timed attack with his Great Sword. The beast had been wounded and cornered, but Ragnar’s foolish action allowed it to sneak in a surprise attack. What resulted was the loss of Ragnar’s blade, and the majority of his left upper torso.
Left arm was completely ripped, shoulder cuff mangled. The beast’s claws left gouges along his chest, shoulder, neck, and most notably his face plating. This resulted in a very traumatic tranverse fracture of his facial plating, ripping apart the cabling underneath protoform mesh. His left audio was mangled beyond repair, only a small fraction of the base remaining.
Bleeding out faster than his team could save him, the beast turned on them and slaughtered most of the unit. When an Elder team arrived with backup and subdued the beast, Ragnar was the only one whose injuries weren’t fatal. The Elder Knights had ‘magic,’ endowed to them from Primus himself. This kept him stable until they returned to the Guild.
Ragnar was stripped of his blade, and upon awakening he realized his grevious error in judgement. It cost him his team, his friends, and his honor. He vowed, in the dimly lit infirmary, to never let his ego get the better of him.
He remained out of commission for a long time, while his arm was rebuilt from scrap. His face plating had sustained too much damage, so he was left with total paralysis of his facial plating on the left side and little to no hearing in that audio. His optic was functional, the only thing that wasn’t stripped to the endoskeleton.
Donning a battle mask from then on, he learned to fight with a bastard sword instead of his Great Sword. Same with a shield.
Over time, Ragnar regained his sword and his honor. He even rose to become an Elder Knight. But that is a story for another time.
