"I still can't believe you almost let me fly past your birthday without telling me it was coming up," he sighs, mostly to himself. Since the Gala, where he'd made it more than clear that he was in this relationship for real, even going so far as to call the intern his girlfriend, he's been trying really hard to leave Sienna alone at work. While he wanted nothing more than to let the small touches and lingering looks stay between them, with all the changes in the hospital, he knew it made Sienna uneasy. Still, without her mother as his boss, he'd hoped that maybe she'd at least like neuro a little more, if only to spend time working together.

In the skills lab, they were alone, where he showed her a stitch they'd been working on again on the fake patient's skin. "And then I would've felt really dumb if I'd barged in on a birthday party that your roommates threw or I wouldn't have been able to get you the perfect gift," Ryan continues, finishing up the stitch and handing the needle and thread to Sienna. The gift, however rushed it may have been, had come from the heart. He'd made a coupon for Sienna offering a free pass on any surgery she wanted, which would allow her to open or close and serve as his second. While it wasn't plastics, he'd thought of trying to get Ade to hand over a similar deal, but the secret would've been in far too much jeopardy that way, and he wouldn't take the risk. The coupon, flowers, dinner, hot sex, and a little more patience would have to do -- for now.

After finishing up a final surgery, Ryan was ready to stop staring at brains. He’d had surgery after surgery, consult after consult, because the thing was that when there was a mass casualty and a mass amount of injuries, turns out the head will get hit more often than not. He’d lost a patient today and nearly lost another, but the successes were there, too. Ryan had to keep looking at the successes— the ones who were going to see their loved ones tonight. 

As he left the OR, heading to the locker room to change quickly and grab his bag, he couldn’t help but keep a lookout for her. Ryan thought about Sienna nearly all day. She was an intern and she needed to learn, but when he’d heard her name called for team one, he nearly traded her spots. However, that would definitely put a spotlight on them, one that he wasn’t sure they were ready for. They enjoyed spending time together and despite what his original gut said— that he was too old and too close to her mother (considering she’s his boss)-- he didn’t want that time to come to an end because he couldn’t maintain boundaries. Besides, clearly, he had been needed at the hospital. 

Ryan had asked around to a couple of people before finally reigning himself in and exiting the hospital to find the same woman he was looking for sitting there right in his path. She looked tired and worn down, that much he was sure. Not to mention, when he finally comes beside her to sit, he’s not even sure that Sienna’s noticed him. At least, she hasn’t totally recognized him beyond whatever daze she was in. “Hey,” he says softly, his hand gently pushing a stray piece of hair from her face in the breeze. “I was looking for you, Si,” Ryan admits, although he’s yet again— trying not to be too aggressive. Walking on the eggshells, he’s slowly trying to clear. “How are you?

Dipping his hands under the spray of the sink, Ryan hums to himself. He'd just finished up a complex surgery that gave him plenty to be proud of, and now, as long as the guy woke up, Ryan was walking on sunshine. Looking up from his hands as he continued to scrub out, he caught sight of one of the scrub nurses who'd helped out for the duration of the surgery. "Thanks for your help today, Ind," he greets. "Now, if we could just get some massage therapists in this place, today would be perfect. What do you think?"

He had to admit-- after the speech by the Chief of Surgery, people looked a little more tense. With the Heads of departments leaving, including his own boss, and the intimidation used by the Chief, you could see the panic on people's faces. Ryan was more of a go-with-the-flow kind of person and without a Head of Neuro temporarily, he was going to have to step up. Priya, however, looked like she might puke in the middle of the dance floor. Making his way over to the intern, he gives her a reassuring smile. "Say it with me-- everything's going to be okay," he tells her. "You're going to be okay."

Waking up in a bed and a room that's not his own, Ryan finds himself a little turned around as he wakes without the alarm he'd set. It's still early for him to be up, considering he hadn't exactly gone to bed too long ago. However, as he's waking up and looking at his phone, he knows he's not going back to bed. There are not one but two other interns who will be coming back to the house they share in less than two hours. They'd planned for this morning, ensuring that he'd slip out without any worry of getting caught. Ryan gently gets himself out of the bed, detangling himself and placing a subtle kiss on her hair. Pulling his briefs on, he moves himself from the bed and down the stairs.

Once he finds the kitchen, he's promptly searching the cabinets for coffee. Interns at least had to have enough money for coffee, right? He could pitch in a twenty for the inconvenience of his downing a cup or two before he left, leaving the rest for whoever might need it. Eventually, he finds the supplies, feeling eyes on his tattooed back as he turns, unknowingly speaking.

"I made coffee, Si," he says before identifying the blonde hair in front of him-- not exactly who he's expecting. Fuck-- Now he's wide awake. Her roommates were not supposed to be here until later this morning. How funny is the universe that it was slow enough for someone to leave early? Or maybe she was sick? "Uh, hi. Coffee?" he says, trying not to feel self-conscious of his half-naked body in front of an intern as he holds a mug up to Eve.
