Light’s incarceration had ended weeks ago, and yet the detective was still not satisfied. Despite the little stunt he had pulled with Light’s father and Misa, he was still not completely convinced that Light was innocent. It had been enough to satisfy the rest of the task force, and though L had agreed to allow him to work alongside him - though not completely free, thanks to the handcuffs - he still suspected him. Despite spending every waking moment with him, and seeing nothing suspicious since, the detective was sure there must be something. He had never been wrong before. But it was frustrating.
He often found himself staring at the other, almost as if he was expecting Light to just turn around and go ‘alright, you got me, I’m Kira’, just to get him to stop staring. But it never happened. Tonight was no exception. Dark eyes were focused on the other, boring into him as he inched ever closer, irritatingly so, no regard for Light’s personal space whatsoever.
When he finally spoke, L blinked and cocked his head to one side, still staring.
❝ Oh nothing ❞ he lied, nibbling lightly on the tip of his thumb. ❝ I was just wondering what you were thinking... about the current state of the case, I mean ❞. His tone was absent, almost as though he wasn’t completely there in the moment. He just needed one little thing, something, anything, to covince the others that his deduction wasn’t wrong. But Light wasn’t giving him anything. He was either an exceptional liar, or L was, for once, wrong. But the detective wasn’t willing to accept that.
