Sam sighed, his hands shaking as he pressed the call button. He couldn’t call Dean. He knew how that would end. Dean would tell him he wasn’t going to do this. That he wasn’t going to say yes to Lucifer. But Sam was at his wits end. He didn’t see another option. He didn’t see another way out. No, this was the way, he didn’t know how…But something just felt like this was the way.
❝ Cas? Cas it’s me. It’s Sam. I just um…I just wanted to tell someone that I’m…I’m sorry. But I have to do this. I have to do this to protect Dean. It’s the only way. Something makes me feel like…This is really the ONLY way. ❞ Sam took in a deep shaky breath. ❝ Don’t try and find me. And don’t tell Dean till tomorrow. And Cas…Take care of him for me…Please? You always had our backs when we needed this. I’m sorry I couldn’t be stronger.
The phone had rung once, twice before the angel picked up and was greeted by Sam’s voice. Before he could say anything, the other had spilled his thoughts, and his expression had gone from confusion to horrible realization. Sam had grown desperate and thought he’d have no other choice, but Castiel had begged to differ.
Before he even gave Sam to say another word, he interrupted him. “Sam... You are strong. I know-...I know things are difficult right now. There are obstacles and Lucifer seems to be offering the right solution, but trust me when I say there are other ways.” He bit his lip, hoping Sam would listen to reason. Otherwise, he needed to find him. “Where are you, Sam? I want to talk to you, please.” It comes out almost as a plea, the angel desperate to not lose him.
