((I, er, just mentioned this in a chat, and I REALLY needed to add this because it came to me and I do not want to forget this.

So, she does, but in order for him to stay there, Junpei has to have decent grades--he even gets a part time job because he wants to save up the money to get his own place after high school.

Of course, he thanks Mitsuru for everything, a sobbing mess to be honest, and his part time job becomes full time (during the summer) while he goes to college because he knows he can do it.

Does Junpei think he has any good qualities? Or is it all bravado?
((Of course Junpei has good qualities AND bad qualities. I think he only puts up a bravado when he's meeting someone new and just testing the water, sort of like Usopp, in a way. Junpei did put up a bravado for Chidori, saying he was the leader of SEES and what not--that ended up in hot water with him.
I think he's scared to show off his good qualities since there are some people who have already just assumed that since Junpei does THIS that is who he is as a person--doesn't clean his room often means his lazy, for example. That really isn't the case most of the time.
But uhhh yeah, Junpei has good qualities but puts up a face to, in my opinion, save his face and wants real, true friends. Don't judge a book by a cover and all that.))
Tired, aren't you? That's okay -- it's been a long, long day. Can you even remember the last time you've had a nice rest, when you were truly at peace? How long have you been running on empty for, anyway? Please, sit, drink something warm, close your eyes. There will be time in the morning to do everything that needs to be done.

When you walk into a room, all eyes are on you, and you love it. You have a magnetic personality and people seem to instantly trust you.... or be attracted to you. You enjoy the simple things in life, and you can make any boring situation fun with your sense of humor and positive attitude. You aren't afraid of love, life is too short to deny yourself of such pleasures out of fear. And you aren't stupid either. You know when someone is just trying to take advantage of your quick trust in them for their selfish needs. However, you might struggle to take things seriously at times, trying to avoid conflict at all costs. Remember that avoiding unpleasant conversations rather than communicating is not always the best solution.

[ love as the sole object of your reverence -- nothing about you is holy, but maybe your love for another is ] when sappho said "in the crooks of your body i find my religion" and when the cast of les mis sang "to love another person is to see the face of God" and when halsey said "i found God, i found him in a lover" and when katherine philips wrote "to the dull angry world let's prove there's a religion in our love"

This storyline is mainly if Minato/Makoto dies--any differences will be in italics, signifying Minako/Hamuko differences from Junpei’s life.
Birth up to high school:
Junpei was born on January 16th, 1993, to his parents: Akemi Iori (25) and Satoshi Iori (27). Both were loving and happy parents--his mom worked with the elderly, as a volunteer since she lost both of her parents very young, and his dad worked in construction. So, they had no issues with money, hence making Akemi stay at home more with Junpei and help him with everything you could think of.
However, once Junpei entered elementary school, his dad got severely injured at his job--a forklift went thru his dad’s right leg, penning him to the wall for a few seconds. Junpei doesn’t know much about the event, but that it made his dad go through years of physical therapy. He still walks with a limp to this day, but it’s barely noticeable nowadays. His father is still unable to work, leaving his mom to drop her volunteer job and pick up a job at a near by flower shop. They do receive long term disability checks though. But, knowing that he could possibly be disabled for the rest of his life, Satoshi begins to start drinking, knowing that he couldn’t accept the reality.
At first, the drinks were one or two every couple days, which lead to a couple drinks a day. It would help ease him out of the pain, compared to the many medications he was on. He has come to pick up Junpei slightly intoxicated, in which Junpei states the obvious, which lead to him getting shoved into the wall or punched. Junpei keeps quiet about it, since his dad apologizes about it hours later--but this goes on until he’s entering the first year of middle school (grade 6). His mom finds out when she notices Junpei continues to sleep in sweats and a tank top even in the dead heat of the summer. She finds the bruises, is sicken over this, and then leads to his dad and mom arguing for months to years. Junpei becomes closed off as an adolescent and barely makes a friend or two.
His grades go from A’s to C’s, the occasional B, and a D here and there. But, he never tells his parents. Junpei was about to head into his last year as a middle school when his mother left them both. She couldn’t handle the bruises, the fighting, the arguing--she left money inside of Junpei’s bank account, for when he turns 18, for him to get out of his dad’s house. Junpei had no clue how much money it was. So, he is transferred to Gekkoukan Middle School in his final year as a middle schooler, and eventually goes to the high school. He keeps a cool face and is more relaxed when no one knows about his past, besides a teacher or two, and his grades go back to just C’s. But, he takes care of his dad most days, even though he didn’t want to grow up so soon.
Enter P3 and the whole situation going on with SEES and the Dark Hour.
Post game of P3:
Junpei, once the whole Abyss of Time situation was resolved, he begged Mitsuru to keep the dorms open, at least one more year, because of personal reasons (his dad and such). So, she does, but in order for him to stay there, Junpei has to have decent grades–he even gets a part time job because he wants to save up the money to get his own place after high school. He was more happier working part time at a hospital rather than in fast food--he got to learn about how to treat splints, rashes, the minor stuff. He wouldn’t mind leaving his dad, knowing that he’s gotten better with his alcoholism, but he just can’t handle it--after everything--and knows his dad’s friends would take care of him.
And so, Junpei goes from Cs and Ds to As and Bs–because he worked his damn ass off that is why!–and Mitsuru actually helps him out with a place because she knows the best and something that is easily affordable for Junpei. Of course, he thanks Mitsuru for everything, a sobbing mess to be honest, and his part time job becomes full time (during the summer). When he turns 18, he gets a letter from Mitsuru, that is from his mom. The letter basically says that he has money left in a bank for him, she sends the card to him in the letter, and that he should use it to help him start his future. Of course, he doesn’t know if she’s alive or dead anyway--he goes and checks the bank out, only to find out that there is 500,000 yen ($4,664 ~) left for him. Junpei is baffled, unsure of what to do with all this money his mom gave him that accumulated over the years.
So, when Junpei finished his last year at Gekkoukan High, he takes Mitsuru’s offer on the apartment that is closer to Tokyo, and he begins to attend community college. He is still friends with everyone, for the first couple of years. He has kept up with Chidori Yoshino, knowing that the memories they created are gone in her mind, BUT he texts her every couple days. Granted, he tries to come and see her every other weekend and hang out with her. It takes a long time for them to actually become best friends. The only other people, from SEES whom he keeps in contact with is Yukari Takeba, Fuuka Yamagishi, and Ken Adama. Junpei graduates top 10 of his community college class and gets a job with working with minor league teams as an athletic trainer--treating injuries on the sidelines and gets paid for it, hence why he wanted to go into sports medicine.
Ultimax and onward:
Since Junpei has his associate’s in sports medicine, Junpei realizes that he has more free time and as much as he wants to play video games and be a slouch, he gets motivated and decides to start up a little league team with kids from all sorts of backgrounds. He would do anything for those boys (and girls if they wouldn’t be so scared to join!) and sort of becomes a role model of sorts. He keeps up with this job for a long time--he just loves the adrenaline and helps motivate the kids. Junpei is a kid at heart, after so many years, and channels that into the hearts of those kids. He does occasionally talk to Akihiko, Mitsuru, and Shinjiro around this time because he knows that he shouldn’t let all his past friendships go down the drain. Otherwise, he just waits for them to message him since he knows Mitsuru is beyond busy, Akihiko is god knows where, and Shinjiro is busy doing what he is doing--he doesn’t talk much to him anyway.
Junpei does get a bigger apartment (two bedrooms instead of a studio), closer to the city of Tokyo, within city limits, so that he doesn’t have to carry all the equipment back so far. He finds out that his dad is in the hospital, knowing that he needs a liver transplant. With all the damage the alcohol is done, he is unsure if he actually wants to help him out. He wanted to try his hardest to get back to his mom, but after being gone for over 10+ years, he has no clue to where to find her. After realizing, and getting sick to his stomach, he knows that he should help him.
(Circa 2018)
Once he meets with his dad, realizing that he was sicker than he thought, Junpei tries so hard to reconcile with him. His dad begs that he will change, that he wants his only son back and wants to try to start over again. So, Junpei, after thinking (and realizing that livers do regenerate, just takes longer than normal), he actually gives up half his liver, but with a stipulation: no more alcohol--if there is so much a sip of alcohol in his system, Junpei will drop all contact and never help his father ever again.
They go through with the surgery, and moves back with his dad for a month, making sure he was perfectly fine and getting better. His dad actually looks thankful and happier after having Junpei back in his life. So, Junpei keeps in contact with his dad, calling him every Sunday to check up on him and visiting him every Wednesday because he knows his father is doing his best. And if he doesn’t keep in contact, then maybe he could get one of his two parents back in his life. His mom is still AWOL, and eventually asks Fuuka to use her hacking skills to find out where she is.
He finds out that she died when she was 50--she died in her sleep, overdosing on sleeping medicine. Junpei gets into a deep depression about this--he had no way into getting into contact with her, and after finding out, it takes him a month or two to get back into his normal routine of things. Old SEES members check up on him, which lead to Chidori finding out and having her come around and help take care of Junpei. It takes Junpei a while to get over his mother’s death, but he never tells his dad--because it can lead to him drinking again. As for now, he carries the burden of his mom’s death on his shoulders. Junpei just wants to start a new future, with someone who comes into his life--be it Chidori or not. He wants to make himself happy, and the idea of a family crosses his mind occasionally. As of now, nothing has happened, but he’s hopeful to maybe rekindle a friendship with someone whom he loves.
