// So for those that expressed interest in my dorky project while I was in a waiting room for five hours (uncle of another set of twins now woo!) what I estimated Daniel's royalties to be because the point of his story in my head is that he exhausted a lot of his wealth running around the planet to being chased by Armand. (It's okay Daniel gets to live well beyond his wildest dreams eventually at his side)
For the TLDL
Year 1 royalties per month : $150,000–$250,000 (almost all that money is gone in being on the run)
Year 4 royalties per month: $30,000–$70,000 <- Daniel could have lived a comfortable life at this point even if Armand and him didn't end up together just by not having to be on the run. We do not blame him for choosing the hot vampiric boyfriend and living even more luxuriously as Armand becomes a multi-millionaire very fast, we do not judge you Daniel. Daniel is not money savvy, a man of vices, and someone that never got to enjoy luxury, he is not good at conserving and keeping money saved, he would have been spending it as fast as he was earning it.
Below if you do want the long version. I did this for no one but myself for reference but you are welcome to indulge in my nerd project.
My formula took a few things into account to draw comparison from the real world and to ground figures in realism in a world of preternatural events.
A) What kind of book it is.
In‑universe, Interview with the Vampire is a non-fiction true style account (although it gets labelled fiction cause no one believes it) that is sensational, controversial, shocking and a cultural bombshell that becomes a bestseller almost immediately. I took inspiration from In Cold Blood,The Amityville Horror and Go Ask Alice as to sensationalist book sales as a guesstimate of how many copies he would have sold.
B) Standard royalty rates to make my life easier.
For a hardcover bestseller:- 10–15% of list price
Typical list price: $20–$25
A conservative average of royalty per hardcover sold: $2.50–$3.00
Paperbacks (which explode after the hardcover run)
- 7.5–10% of list price
- List price: $8–$10
- Royalty per paperback: $0.60–$1.00
C) Taking the figures of a book that is a cultural phenomenon like the ones in Section A
Hardcover first year: 300,000–600,000 copies
Paperback first year: 1–2 million copies
A grounded estimate with what is in line with real-world breakout nonfiction never mind that the controversy of it and the debate make this on the low side of the estimate . (The more scholars, theologists, scientists debate it and call Daniel a hoax the more copies sell)
D) Monthly royalties. Stay with me, I am a mathematician, we are going to do maths. (first 12 months)
Hardcover phase (first 3–6 months)
If 300k hardcovers sell in 6 months:
- 50,000 per month
- Royalty per copy: ~$2.75
- Monthly royalties: ~$137,500
If it’s a mega-hit (600k in 6 months):
- 100,000 per month
- Monthly royalties: ~$275,000
Paperback phase (months 6–12)
If 1 million paperbacks sell in 6 months:
- 166,000 per month
- Royalty per copy: ~$0.80
- Monthly royalties: ~$132,000
If 2 million sell:
- 333,000 per month
- Monthly royalties: ~$266,000
Taking the midpoint of all realistic ranges: $150,000–$250,000 per month in the first year. If the book becomes a global phenomenon (which it absolutely would), his income could spike even higher.
Where his royalties are when finally the Chase ends (using the books in Section 1 on year 4 averages)
Hardcovers (1-3 thousand sold per month): $2,750–$8,250 per month
Paperbacks(20–50 thousand copies per month): $16,000–$40,000 per month
Foreign editions (30 ish languages) : $8,000–$20,000
Audiobooks : $2,000–$5,000
Pooling all streams together : $30,000–$70,000 a month in royalties.
You can faintly hear the sound of voices talking and it feels like someone is carrying you. You struggle to get your eyes to open, but there’s some aura that is pressuring you to keep your eyes shut and embrace the darkness. Though, you weren’t the type of person to succumb to such pressures. After a few minutes you are finally able to open your eyes and look around. The thing that draws your attention first is the eerie green sky and the size of the moon.
“Hey, you’re awake.” The person carrying you finally spoke, and the group stopped. You noticed that they were all carrying a variety of weapons. You could tell instantly that these were weapons designed for combat, since you’ve been around them for some time yourself. “How do you feel?”
“I feel off, it’s hard to stay awake right now.”
“We know, give it a few days and you should feel better during this time.” A different voice spoke this time, this one was dressed in some sort of weird costume? A cosplayer maybe? So many things were going on at once, that you are having a hard time keeping everything in line. The last thing you remembered was some sort of rift or portal opening up. Everything after that was a blur. “Take it easy for the rest of the Dark Hour. We’ll get you up to speed tomorrow.”
Dark hour? The name seems familiar and it stirs something deep within your soul. You feel like you should recognize your mind is still very foggy. You want to ask more questions, but another wave of exhaustion washed over you. Seeing no other option you decided to listen to the group of people, before you fall back asleep you hear one last voice.
“Another one? Having this many people with the Potential falling into this world can’t be good. Good thing that Mitsuru-san has plenty of room to house all these people.”
Shadows of the Final Day is a Persona 3, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Tumblr based group verse. So I !!! commissioned the wonderful amazing fantastic @sappines for some references of Izuku using his Bow Blade, in particular his Super Move: Triple Threat.
Izuku’s first supermove features the Bow Blade in it’s entirety. It’s aptly named ‘triple threat’ and starts with a blow from one of Izuku’s specialty arrows, giving him enough time to switch to the great blade, strike with that, and then deal a final blow with the dual blades. (long range -> mid range -> close range).
Please please please consider commissioning Kona, as you can see her art is Fantastic and also I owe her my life! Here’s a link to her info
Also obligatory s/o to @amplifyingtrace for the original design for Izuku’s hero costume. You should also consider commissioning her. Info link here.
#Reminder and #Reference about Freed Justine’s height: The guy is roughly 5′11″ (180/181cm). That’s great average height for a man. Guild mates with supposedly about the same height are Gajeel, Droy, Warren and Mest.
