While Kate had considered calling Noel all day after she’d had a run in with her ex-husband. She knew he would be able to console her, but they weren’t exactly speaking. Or rather, she wasn’t speaking to him. She was still trying to get over this entire cheating situation, and figured the best way to deal with it all was to just handle it alone. And she thought it would be rather weird to call or text him out of the blue after ignoring him for two weeks just to help her handle her own problems.
However, that all went out the window when she was woken up in the middle of the night by a nightmare that was worse than any she had had in months. There was no way of her getting back to sleep easily, she couldn’t stop shaking and she felt entirely on alert - ready to panic at any moment. She knew she couldn’t stand to be alone right now, even after her cat came and hopped on the bed she still didn’t feel at all comforted. Deep down, she only person who could make her feel safe right now was Noel. But could she call him right now? Picking up her phone, she glanced at the time that flashed on the screen. 2:23 a.m.
After holding her phone in her shaking hands for a bit longer, she finally just decided to go through with it and call Noel, unable to sit here any longer. The moment she heard his groggy voice on the other end, she didn’t bother letting him speak first, knowing he would be confused anyway. “Hi - um, I - I know I shouldn’t have called. I’m sorry, it’s late, I know. I just... Um, could you come over?” she stammered, stuttering over her words as she tried to get her thoughts in order. Her voice was audibly trembling, she just couldn’t help it. “I - I saw him. Um, my ex, I saw my ex-husband today and - and it’s really been wearing on me. Everything that happened, just our conversation and everything. And then, um, I just woke up from a nightmare and I - I’m really freaking out. I can’t - I don’t know, I’m panicking a little. And I need to see you right now. I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t - you don’t have to come I just... I don’t feel safe. I need you here,” she finally stopped rambling, allowing him a chance to speak at all.
