Alice was many things. A pureblood, a rather wealthy child, and a talent witch. Alice was also not many things. A blood purist, spoiled, or arrogant. Alice tried her hardest to always be kind and courteous. She was an optimistic young lady, and tended to be bubbly and cheerful. So it confused her that this particular student was talking to her. The brunette was more than glad to make new friends, but it was odd that a Slytherin like Alecto Carrow had decided to talk to her. Alecto didn’t have the best reputation, and Alice had caught her on multiple occasions bullying students. Several times Alice had stepped in after the fact to comfort the poor student. And while Alice definitely wasn’t sure, she had her suspicions that Alecto belonged to the darker side of Wizard kind. And as a loyal member to the Order, Alice had to be wary. It caused her great confusion hearing the statement that came out of Alecto’s mouth, however. She recalled the sensation, and it was not pleasant. It was a rather pessimistic statement.
Turning to look at Alecto, Alice have a shrug before smiling. “I prefer to think of life like a cake! So many layers, but ultimately an enjoyable experience.” Alice had thought about the analogy carefully before answering, she didn’t want to make a comparison that wouldn’t make sense given the context of the situation. She also knew that she was potentially opening the door for ridicule, or a hex if she wasn’t lucky. Still, Alice was relatively undaunted. They were at Hogwarts, its not like she could do anything too terribly bad. Alice could deal with whatever Alecto put out with a smile, and with kindness. Maybe Alecto hadn’t recieved kindness, so Alice found herself determined to show her some. She didn’t want to fight hate with hate.

Alecto: What's you're greatest weakness?
Narcissa: I'm vague.
Alecto: Can you elaborate?
Narcissa: Yeah.

Lighter. Cigarette. These were the first words in Emmeline’s mind as she stepped a foot out of the Riddle. She wasn’t able to even think straight anymore.
Ten minutes alter, she found herself walking towards Unspeakable. Something she had almost never done, knowing who ran the place, who she might stumblr upon. But today she went, because she wanted to see Alecto, more than she wanted to avoid Augustus -- especially since she wasn’t supposed to do that anymore.
Alecto and Emmeline weren’t quite best friends, but not quite acquaintances either. When they were teenagers and both had dramatically different lives, they’d pass by eachother, never really finding anything to talk about but trying anyway. Now years later, they had evolved into something else entirely, an easy and undemanding friendship, which was so rare in Knockturn you tended to forget it was possible. And tonight, Emmeline desperately needed some alcohol and good old girls’ night. Alecto seemed like the person to go to for that: talking with her didn’t have to be important, meaningful, life-changing. Emmeline needed some not live-changing stuff for once.
She didn’t know yet if she was going to tell the girl about Augustus. It was still a tense subject, and the brunette had noticed her friend tended to avoid it altogether in her presence, probably not to hurt her. Or something. Even if they didn’t often talk about the hard stuff, that didn’t keep them from looking out for one another.
Emmeline got inside the club, and thankfully Alecto was on her own, probably for the only second of the evening. Everyone always wanted a piece of this girl. So Emmeline came up from dehind her, catching her elbow with both hands.
“Oh, girl. Please tell me you don’t have the late shift tonight. I am in severe need of this wonderful combination that you and alcohol make.” She added a small grin at the end, hopefully looking cute and not psychotic.
