His gaze followed the length of the arrow, past the sharpened point of the head, to the target in the distance. He drew in a slow breath, aware of every muscle in his upper body - the familiar pull of the drawn bow, the grounded stance of his legs. His lips curved faintly into a smile as he chose his moment, fingers releasing the string and propelling the projectile forward at high speed.
Within mere seconds, the arrow thunked into the wooden strut beside the curly head of the tall, broad-shouldered man in the sailor’s uniform, where it quivered with the impact. Robin pressed himself against the side of the building, shadowed in the narrow alleyway he had taken refuge in, and watched with a grin. A slip of parchment now hung upon a string near the tail of the arrow, bearing a message meant only for the sailor.
‘Look behind you, handsome.’
