Falling To Pieces

“Keen?” Edward whirled around to face him. “Keen? You think I’m bloody keen to throw this away?” He pushed right up into Liam’s space, anger taking hold to protect himself from the pain this was causing him. “Alright, Li, I tell you what. If you can tell me, right now, when the last time we had an actual conversation was, what problem I had at work last week, or what fucking date passed by two days ago, then I’ll stay.”
He’d barely seen his partner lately. If Liam wasn’t working late at his office, he was absorbed in his laptop in the evenings. He’d stopped bothering to set the table for dinner, just bringing a plate through to where Liam was working. He knew Liam took his job seriously and he’d never begrudge him that, but when he hadn’t even acknowledged the anniversary of his grandfather’s passing, that had been the last nail in the coffin. What made it even worse was that he knew it wasn’t deliberate. Liam just hadn’t even noticed the date. It was the whole reason he’d wanted to go back to Galway.
