"Why are you so afraid?"
Why was she so a f r a i d? Maybe it was surviving a rusty prison c-section and the fear of long-term infections. It couldn’t possibly be the h o r d e s of the undead closing in on them everywhere they r a n. Or maybe it was the band of mass-murdering a s s h o l e s coming after them.
All that, and she still had no words for the father of her children. Things had soured a l o n g time ago, and she was happy he had moved on. But it didn’t h u r t any less.
She turned her head to her son, scooping Judith up, pressing her cheek against her soft baby hair. “I’m just not ready to deal with him, baby. I…I know it’s h a r d on y’all. I just…I can’t.”
