Satoru isn't the only one whose 3am cravings end up leading them to sneak into the kitchen. Considering how many times she's come around to ask for some of his fried tofu, she doesn't mind it one bit when he joins her at an ungodly hour for once.

The kitchen they always use for such purposes is hand-picked for its distance from the other rooms, not wanting to wake anyone with either sounds or smells. And at this point, it's stocked up with all of their more eccentric ingredients that no one else dares touch.

Alice smiles with a greeting nod as he hops onto the counter and peeks at the small bowls with fillings first and then into the frying pan where different shapes of onigiri are grilling. "What kind of filling are you feeling?" She asks in a low voice, shaping the next small batch while the first forms that delicious caramelized crust typical of yaki onigiri.

“Would you still love me if I was a worm?” Sacchan… might have had too many drinks…

"..........What kinda worm we talkin' about?" Alice has been keeping up with him, so she's just as bad. "I ain't loving you if you're a nematode. If you're an annelid... maybe."

It took a bit of convincing, but Satoru got Ruki to take the celebrant out for an impromptu outing. Meanwhile, Satoru spent the whole afternoon baking. A nice chocolate cherry cake, lovingly shaped like a cartoony bunny!

And as soon as the two arrived home, Satoru greeted Alice with a birthday hat (which he seemingly pulled out of nowhere?) and an excessively dramatic opera rendition of Happy Birthday. Amazing.

     Throughout her life, her birthdays often landed on very responsibility heavy days: final tests, entrance exams, work meetings, you name it. When it didn’t and she had the day off for once, it came as a most pleasant surprise, as if the universe was also congratulating her. Takahashi-san’s invitation for lunch was also lovely when she didn’t have any set plans for the earlier hours of the day. It was a bit odd, perhaps suspicious even, that she had yet to hear from their resident memer, but she was having fun. 

By the time they’d returned, she understood why, chuckling at the adorableness of the hat and clapping enthusiastically at the performance. “Thank you!” Voice still airy with laughter, she moved to give Satoru a tight hug, Japanese propriety norms be damned! And because he was also involved in the little ruse, Alice gave Ruki a briefer, gentler squeeze as well.

     The softest clinking sound of a plate being set upon the table caught her attention, making her look away from her laptop in time to see the meme man’s retreat back into the kitchen. Given the wondrous smell that’d been permeating the entire place for a while now, Alice smiled, knowing he’d brought her a treat, but she was certainly not expecting a purple one.

A tiny gasp escaped her at the sight before a soft chuckle took its place. With the perfect excuse to take a break, Alice got up and followed after Satoru, taking a bite of the treat on the way there. “Mmm, it tastes so good...” Not at all a surprise. He was a master baker, which was a huge bonus because it meant she had full access to all the tasty things whenever she wanted, but also a huge problem because her time (and disposition) for exercising was limited by her work schedule. “Why it purple, tho? Did you just want to use ube or were you aiming for the color? I love it either way, to be honest.”
