Morning News // Icelus and Eris

{ @erisxmp because familiar bonds can't get better than this.} The past few days for Icelus have been so unpredictable that not only has he found love again, but with a person who shares the same things he had been though. It enlightened his inner state of mind dramatically to the point where he was smiling and talking more. Still taking in that they were just starting to date, it would be a while before anything too major happened. Deciding to tell his closest family about the good news, the first person on his list was his dearest Auntie Eris. When she found out news like this, gods knows how she'll react. He never brought up many personal things other than personal struggles to her; maybe this time she'd actually be very happy to see something new change him for the better. Toying and trying to cover up the massive knuckle-sized hickey on his neck with his sweater, it was hard to do such a thing. You could see a small bit peeking out; but not the whole thing. Letting out a quiet sigh, he made his way into the fancy dress shop with two coffees in his hands; one for him and one for his aunt. Stepping into the store, he was overwhelmed with the various dresses that stocked the racks all throughout. Carefully walking over to the front desk, Icelus smiled as he saw the familiar lady standing behind the counter. He played the coffee in front of her and spoke up softly. "Auntie Eris, how are you doing this morning? Thought you may want some coffee to help wake you up."

“Mm..Sounds like a perfect idea. I don’t mind paying for both of us; my treat.”

The God of Nightmares had been idly looking through an old book when his dearest aunt decided to call him during his morning off. He would’ve ignored it, seeing that he’d rather be asleep for a few more hours or cuddling up to his source of heat that was his boyfriend. Easily, since she was very close family he can’t protest against the nice gesture.

“Where do you want to meet? I can make it anywhere..Maybe the little cafe close to the park? They must sell hot cocoa there.”

Now that the seasons were changing and it was much more cool (which he secretly loved), he was already breaking into his sweaters and comfy jeans with wool socks. Certainly being in the underworld you could understand it can be a bit cooler compared to the surface, depending on where you are, of course.

“Give me a few minutes to get ready, and I’ll meet you wherever.”

Morning News // Icelus & Eris

“Hello, dearheart. I’m doing fine as always, how are you?” she asks in return simply out of politeness, but as she thinks upon it and the gesture he brings, it becomes more of curiosity, fully turning her attention towards him. “You thought correctly, and I appreciate that. But..is there something that brings you here specifically?” she found it hard to believe that anyone, even one of her nephews, would simply drop in just to see her; especially when she was so easily summoned, always willing to get into things. It was…nice…but terribly strange for her, hence why she was questioning it as she looked him over, eyes narrowing ever so slightly.

“Good, today has been fine for me so far. I thought since I had the morning free I’d stop by and tell you some good news. Well, at least good to you; fantastic for me.” 

A brief chuckle slipped past his sleepy expression, silenced by his sip of coffee from the cup he nursed in his hands. His heart was beating quickly, nervousness sinking in as he waited for his nerves to cease before continuing to speak and address the thing that caused him to come in the first place. Meanwhile, not paying attention to the fact his collar slipped and the mark peeking out from under his collar.

“Well, I’ve met this guy..He’s nice, handsome, caring..Overall the most wonderful person I’ve met in centuries..He’s a demigod, but that wouldn’t matter too much to me. I have this feeling that there’s something unique about him that’s drawing me to him..I guess you could call it love..”

Icelus looked so helplessly in love; something you’d never expect to see on the nightmare god’s face in any lifetime. Somehow, the slightest smile is on his lips and a bright light in his darkened eyes makes him look so much more innocent that usual. Realizing he was rambling, he laughed; a tint of pink on his cheeks as he returned his gaze to his aunt’s face.

Closure // Eris and Icelus

She’s treading inches away from a line, having to focus on trying to keep herself composed and trying to help pull him together, a quiet sigh escaping her. There was only so much help she could give. “Have you..thought to speak with your brother? I would think that our beloved dream god would be able to assist you or give you the advice to help you find some sort of closure for such a heartache.”

He looked up when she mentioned the similarity to his father, causing him to sit up straighter but still have his body relaxed. It had been so long since he had seen his father, and he knew Eris was right; he was exactly like his father. Deep down, we was strongly connected to his kin by their emotions and dreams. It was something that his family seemed to carry down no matter the bloodline. 

“I can understand that,” He leaned against his aunt’s shoulder and let out a frustrated sigh, “It’s just that..he was the first of my children to appear in a nightmare like that. But, it was in his own..and I was so helpless. It was horrible to see him in such a horrible state, and I couldn’t do anything. I guess it was just fatherly instincts..”

Phobetor closed his eyes and tried to push the vivid memory away. He didn’t want to remember it, he didn’t want to see it. All he wanted was closure. Closure from losing his son so quickly; in the blink of an eye and gone in smoke. It was heartbreaking to him, more than losing his lover so long ago. This was a pain that would stay until he could let go. Hearing her mention his dear older brother, he smiled slightly. Maybe, there was some way he could aide him. He’s helped him with his dreams before, surely he could help the nightmare god find closure with his son.

“Hmm..Maybe, he’s helped me before. There must be something he can do. Maybe I should look into getting Morpheus to help me with this..”

’ The public will forgive you, I promise. ’

“How do you know that? Can you even start to guess how furious Inari will be after what happened?”

Phobetor’s voice rose in anger and in disbelief. He let out a sharp breath of smoke; circling his head like birds of prey. It had been one little slip of his senses and all hell had broken loose. At least one third of the city had experienced horrifying nightmare all at once because Phobetor had thought he was in one person’s dream and let everything else go. Running his fingers through his hair furiously, he paced like a caged animal yet to be freed from their cage.

“Now what? I can’t undo what just happened and now since I slipped up a good part of Mount Phoenix thinks I’m a complete monster!”

Fists balled tight into fists, he walked over to the long mirror before him and struck it with his fist. In an instant, the mirror shattered and cracked under his hand. Looking at the millions of shards of glass at his feet; blood mixed in among them, he slowly looked back up at the remnants of what was a mirror. His eyes on the brink of turning back welled up with tears, his voice cracked as he spoke softly to himself.

“I’m not a monster..am I? Is that all people see me as?..”

“Of course we are..We both know this equally. Maybe you more than me, but you get the point Auntie..”

He leaned back in his chair, nursing the cup of dark coffee in his hands. It had been a while since he had last spoken to her, finding slight comfort in her company. Taking a small sip, his attention turned to her gaze as he looked at her quietly. There was some type of chaos or even energy that they both shared that made them who they were. Maybe it was the fact that both of them were close in hiding true emotions and intentions?

After a brief moment of silence he spoke up; his cup now was back on the table before he folded his hands in his lap.

“What is it that drives us both to do the things we do Dearest Aunt?..Is it for a pleasure of it or the fact that we need it to keep our sanity?”
