fic tease!

Another OC fic because I love torturing all of you as I cry while writing the ending to this.  TW: sad lesbian doesn’t understand her own sexuality, drinking, a dog On the table: one glass, more whiskey than coke now. There’s two bottles beside it, one glass and amber, the other plastic and sweating in the mild heat of the apartment.

On the sofa: one mutt, medium sized, wiry haired and snoring peacefully. A paw twitches in some unnamed dream. Chasing rabbits, maybe. The dog woofs in her sleep and more paws twitch, faster and faster, chasing.

Lani lifts the heavy bottomed glass and sips again. Her mind is foggy but she keeps going, topping it off again and again, more whiskey than coke. If she drinks enough if will chase the worries away. It always does.

Highschool. Girls chatting about boys and all Lani feels is disinterest, wondering why. Girls are supposed to like boys and boys are supposed to like girls. There’s the occasional rumor about an aunt or uncle with Peculiar Prolictivies (always said like that, each word capitalized) that moved to the fabled land of Europe. Rumors that are always spoken with an upturned nose and a sneer. Lani accepts a few offers from shy boys with hopeful boys and tries out the dating scene. She holds hands and gives a few chaste kisses. Eventually the boys move on, feeling wounded in a way they don’t understand. Lani makes excuses that feel like lies about wanting to wait until college to Find A Man. Some of the girls understand, after all this is a New Age when women go to college and find careers before husbands. They don’t mention the jealousy they feel for her, Lani and her almond eyes (a brown so rich it seems to glow). Lani and her long, thick hair (black as the dusk between the stars on a moonlit night).

College and her parents make easy comments with uneasy eyes over dinner. Talk of husbands and grandbabies. Her career is important but husbands and grandbabies, husbands and grandbabies. Lani smiles and nods and says the right things while she thinks of the soft brown-haired girl with laughing eyes, feeling thrilled and shamed all at once. Sometimes she dreams of her and wakes flushed, confused.

One day she sees that brown haired girl, she of beautiful curves and laughing eyes, with her hand laced together with a boy’s (he of scraggly soul patch and awkward lines) and Lani feels a deep stab of hurt she doesn’t want to understand. She does her best not to think about it but the hurt lasts longer than she could have imagined.

Later she meets a different boy at a party. A soft boy, a shy boy. He has brown hair and talks about mathematics she doesn’t understand and makes jokes she laughs politely at. Benny wants to work for NASA, she wants to work with corpses. None of this matters, yet she thinks less of the girl she never spoke to but had such grand ideas of.

same!!! i’m highly anticipating the choreo because well.... svt never disappoints so i’m excited for what they have in store for us :D i’d say my excitement level is a solid 9.5,, it would be a 10 if i wasn’t staying up at 1am for the mv release lol & i’m also looking forward to track 1 as well!!!! and falling for u is gonna sound so beautiful with this studio version... i’m so happy it’s on the album ☀️💛

ughghh i have to wake up at 4am for the cb lol .. fun 🤒 but yeah falling for you is such an angelic song i can’t wait … their voices go so well with each other! ✨ it’s such a pretty song, i’m excited to put it in my morning playlist 😌☀️🌻

What’s your personality?

     It was dark. His moves were frantic, slowed underwater as his arms and legs flailed aimlessly in the pitch, black murk.

     His hand brushed up again something slimy that he couldn’t see, heart beating painfully fast as he screamed, bubbles filling the space between him and it as Lani swam as quickly as he could in the opposite direction.

     But where was the shark? Or his board?

     The blackness started to fade into clear, salt water and rushed to break the surface, but his limbs, his chest are burning-

     With a gasp, Lani’s hands shove the covers off his body, off where it was smothering his face.

     He remembers that day as clear as yesterday; the sudden feeling of being r i p p e d from his surfboard, the air sucked from his lungs as he was dragged under, submerged in the ocean, suffocated by in inky, black cloud.

     Only after his dad collected his eight-year-old body off the sandy shore and breathes air back into him did he find out he escaped by the luck of a nearby octopus, shrouded safely by the ink it left behind it as it fled. 

     The ink beneath his skin is r e s t l e s s, black shapes shifting and squirming as he attempts to calm his nerves. The Hawaiian shoves himself off the bed, throwing himself into his desk chair. The tattoo artists’s hands move without him thinking, the ink seeping quickly from the pen into the paper, long, black tentacles stretching from one end to the other.

   His breathing is steadier when the drawing is done, although he violently shoves the paper away from him when the it blinks back at him.

   At least this is a healthy way to deal with it, instead of letting the panic take over.

Kamalani’s Use of His Powers

Although Lani is not ashamed of his status as a mutant, he doesn’t advertise it freely; he’d rather be safe by himself than sent away somewhere because of it. Ink manipulation is a particular power and although it has it’s uses, he’s still careful about how and when he uses is.

With this attitude in mind, Lani is especially careful when using his powers while tattooing.

If the client is human: he will keep up the facade of a ‘normal’ tattoo artist, using  the machines, necessary equipment, ect. At most, he will use his powers to discreetly minimize any pain, discomfort, or damage to the client’s skin, actions which are unnoticeable to the untrained eye. 

If the client is a mutant, non-human, or someone he trusts: he’ll use his powers; simply physically touching the ink while his hands hover above their skin as he focus on his work is enough for him to tattoo. Only if Lani really trusts and cares for you will he feel comfortable enough to make hand to skin contact, even though this is the easiest and best way for him to maneuver the ink how he wants.

Other ways Lani uses his powers of ink manipulation:

To manipulate his tattoos and/or practice on himself (i.e. the tattooed waves will move back and forth, the turtle’s eyes will blink or it’ll swim around).

The one exception is the Hibiscus on his neck, which will bloom in yellow color when he’s happy or excited.

Forcefully expel the ink from his hands and/or body.

This is done as a defensive measure, primarily to defend himself. This is also done rarely, as he would rather flee, in addition to the pain it causes him when he hurriedly forces the ink from his skin.

Manipulate written or printed ink.

This can be used in a variety of ways; he can replicate documents, signatures, or transfer ink from paper to skin, or vice-versa.

What time do they usually get up in the morning? 6:00 am

What is their morning routine? Get up, eat breakfast (Portuguese sausage, egg, rice or a smoothie), shower, dress, open up the shop around 7:30 am.
