It was jarring realizing that, even after so long, he still found himself struck with mute fear whenever he tried to step up against the man in front of him—years upon years of accumulated anxiety playing a part against him and draining him off courage. The threat felt incoherent and mocking, and yet he couldn’t help but find it just as frightening and real when the other was staring him down with those eyes.
