List of names Gale will use at different points, until he cycles back to his own name and the process repeats--

Also, you might notice some of these are female names. While still identifying as Male, he did take female forms at various points.
While, they are indeed genderfluid, they really do just prefer Erika rather than Erik. In fact, their name is ultimately Erika.
The only reason that the whole Erika/Erik is a thing is because of the importance on names. While, they’re more than content with just being called Erika (as that’s the name they identify with and everything) they also realize that they CAN make other vamps switch between the names and it really illustrates how powerful they are within in the vampire society.
Erika is really, the only vamp with this sort of... power? No other vampire has gotten vampire society to switch between names for them. Other vampires have MULTIPLE names or aliases, but they have no control over what they are called.
Erika on the other hand, has gotten to this point where they can control what they get called, which makes them the first vampire to be able to have such control over their name after the first establishment. (The first establishment is where a vamp first declares their name, but this is the only chance that vampires get to control what they are called at all. After this point, they can’t change it or anything beyond adding a family name.)
They’ll have vamps switch between names in mid-conversation, correcting them back and forth, simply because they can.
With Henry though, their long-term sort of lackey vamp, they just have him stick with calling them Erika. Since they already have control over Henry, there’s not really a power-trip over what he calls them. After the first few years, they explained the situation to him, and he’s called them Erika since.
Henry also gets a lil of this power-trip action, too.
Since one of his aliases has Erika’s name in the title, when someone calls him say “familiar of Erik(a)” he can keep making them change the title by “correcting them” on Erika’s name. Which he gets away with this as he claims a psychic connection with Erika, and thus knows when they’re either Erika or Erik. Thus, by disrespecting him on his title the vamp is actually disrespecting Erika which is an offense most vampires don’t trespass.
//I am still on hiatus, but while intensely cleaning my room I found the original name sheet for the Durant family. I’m just going to note everything down so I can recycle the paper all the info is on. Once, I come back I’ll decide if anything changes.
Durant Family
(Durant = “enduring”)
Samantha Alexa Durant
That’s not too far off, Alexandra/ia is really close to Alexa. A close second for the middle name was Alesea = “lighthearted/full of life.” (Samantha = “listener” pfFFF, Alexa = “helper/defender”)
Darrel Sibley Durant
.... wOW, okay- so I decided his middle name was going to be SIBLEY? Like- really? "Well, he’s her sibling, so let’s have his middle name reflect that.” I don’t have any notes regarding the middle name, so I’ll check on any meanings for that later. (Darrel = “beloved”)
Valerie Krynn Durant
Gosh, I shouldn’t be giving the mom a “v” name. “V” names got symbolical meaning in my story. (Valerie = “strong/valient”, Krynn = “caring/loving”)
Edwin Truman Durant
not like that “in” repetition... (Edwin = “rich in friendship”, Truman = “loyal)
Others
I’m just going to jot these notes down, bc it’s all a bit scrambled and idk what they are for.
Some explanations, such as why Alistair has such a ridiculously dramatic name.
I think it’s such a testament to how much of a show-off drama king that Alistair is that he has such a name, because he DID pick it out for himself.
For the most part, vampires don’t keep their human names, and they pick their new names which usually just consists of a first name.
Throughout this, I’ll use the vampires I have on my minor-characters page to help explain. So, Alistair, Erik(a), Tabitha, and Henry.
You may notice that Alistair is the only pompous name there- that’s because Alistair is really fricking pompous. I can’t emphasize that enough. I really can’t. This was not a choice on my part, once I made him the way he is it was going to be some ridiculously dramatic name.
Anyways, once vampires change from human then they usually end up killing someone by sucking them dry and it takes a while before they have a good enough handle on their mental state to think about their identity. By this point, all their previous human friends/lovers have since shunned them and it’s very common for someone to say “That’s not Edward anymore- that’s a monster.” As well, there’s also sometimes a part of the vampire that does want to believe that it’s not them anymore (That’s not me anymore, they died, they didn’t kill their friend, they didn’t do this, they didn’t do that. This is me.).
So, vampires usually end up picking new names. Some stick nameless because they either don’t care or they don’t think monsters should have names. However, generally a vampire will pick out a name for themselves, and because of the limited number of vampires it’s usually just a first name.
There are some vampires that also make themselves last names and form families- some even going so far as to give a name to a vamp they turn instead of letting them choose their own name. Such as TABITHA. There was a small group of vamps that turned her, they were one of these families. They gave her the name Tabitha along with their Last name as they toted her around, using her as bait and to get what they wanted. However, once they abandoned her Tabitha dropped the last name. She kept the first name given to her because it did still feel like that’s who she was, but since she wasn’t part of the family anymore she didn’t feel the last name belonged to her.
Now, ALISTAIR is one of the vamps that just picked a first name. However, he picked a really regal name because he wanted it to be like a title. Also, he didn’t think any other vampire would come up with the name, so that’s what he picked. As with all names, once he found the society of vampires and told anybody his name- it stuck.
There are some vampires, that do remain nameless for a while, but once they interact with the rest of the vampires they almost always pick a name otherwise one is given to them eventually. This is what happened with ERIK(A). Erika is gender-fluid, so that’s what’s up with that by the way. For about fifteen years they didn’t have a name, but they also stayed away from the vampire society. They were ignorant about it entirely for about ten years because they didn’t try to find other vampires or talk with other vampires. Basically, all Erika did for those fifteen years was go around just slaughtering for fun- humans, other vampires, it didn’t matter. They were having a blast, but after the 14th year they got bored. Which after that 15th year they did end up going to the vampire society and they took about six months to pick their name. They probably would have taken longer, but another vamp had declared Erika’s name for them and it was going to stick if they didn’t pick something fast and declare it themselves. They actually went around for fun to ask other vampires what name they thought fit them- and humans too, Erika would actually asked humans which was a fun game for Erika.
See, there’s no stigma against not having a last name, but if you don’t pick a first name then you are considered the lowest form of vampire. Last names are pretty good for the usual reasons, but since they’re optional it’s also a good indicator of what you’re getting into. If the vampire has a last name, and you piss them off then you have their whole family pissed off at you. However, sometimes vampires end up having the same first name and no last name so they’ll get- jeez what do you call them? Ugh, I can’t remember what they’re called, but her are some examples “Henry the humanskin” – “Darrel of Brickens” – “Jessy from North” and so on.
In fact, if a vampire picks a common name that another vampire shares then the next step of hierarchy is to have something like that. These sort of titles are given based on some reputation of yours or some trait you have. If you haven’t done anything remarkable you may get such a generic title as to do with where you go or where you came from. It’s not something you can control, its’ just what the vampires know you by and will start calling you. If more than one title arises then it just becomes whatever name is more indicative or agreeable to the public vampires that ends up becoming your title. Although, some vampires do manage to have multiple titles, but that’s another step up on the hierarchy. If a vampire already has an established title, and THEN they do something remarkable then they’ll gain something indicative of that as a new title. Erika is one of the few vampires to have a title before a name.
Now, if you happen to still identify with your old human name or for whatever reason just stick with your human name then well you get made fun of for it. ESPECIALLY, if you keep your human last name as well. (And if you keep any middle names then oh boy you’ll just make anyone that hears you laugh.) This is the case of HENRY. To be specific his name is Henry Duff, and to be even more specific he has kept his middle initial- so it’s Henry D. Duff. However, he doesn’t tell vampires his middle name, and only his friends really know about his middle initial. Now, Henry is a pretty rare vampire, and the reason he keeps so much of his human name is that he still identifies as human. He’s vampire, but he also considers himself human. He empathizes with humans and as such he not only gets made fun of for keeping his human name, but for also still having such ties to humanity. Which is why his title (Which I may change a bit) is Henry the Humanskin. Henry not only keeps ties to his humanity, but also doesn’t back down from the taunting and still stands behind it.
Vampires don’t think much of humanity as a general consensus. Humans are their food, but they’re tricky at times and they have weapons and hunters and there’s so many of them that vampires are the ones that hide and make these base covens. There’s a lot of politics regarding humans, but as a general rule of thumb- vampires don’t think humans are respectable.
So, there’s a lot to push vampires to pick a new name for themselves. Humans have stopped accepting them and vampire society looks down on vampires without names or worse, who keep their human names.
I should do a post about vampire politics next, man. Or their hierarchy- there’s so much to them that never gets on here because I have the default rp set before any of the team realizes that vampires even have a society.
So, Vincent's name really isn't Vincent, persay. See, I don't want to give a lot away, but basically here's what happened.
Vincent was born and his parents named him Isaac Nathaniel [last name]. He was pretty young when they died like 5 or 6, it's not really much of a thing for him and he doesn't remember too much about them.
Then he lived with his uncle and aunt. When he was like 11 or 12 the Hunter Organization adopted him and renamed him. Vincent Josiah [different last name].
Vincent himself my his old middle name, but he will definitely remember his first name.
Just making this quick because I'm having lunch, but I have 30 minutes to study before this test. Which I don't feel confident about. I'll come back to pick out last names for him maybe tonight. I'm going to watch the US Germany game at a public viewing.
