Spiderman! Mark Lee Drabble | 0.27k
You whistle lowly, eyeing the TV from your living room floor:
SPIDER-MAN HAS SAVED THE DAY (OR SHOULD WE SAY NIGHT?) ONCE AGAIN! Just who is behind that mask of his?
From beside you, Mark Lee taps his foot again the floor, eyes glued to his phone.
His fingers tap his thigh. He’s biting his bottom lip. A prominent line sits between his brows. It’s not the first time he’s been like this whilst the two of you sat in what used to be comfortable silence. Now any silence between you two is charged with Mark’s nerves, like he’s a ticking time bomb on the brink of explosion.
“Is… something bothering you?” You ask.
“Huh?” Mark jumps to attention, looking at you, the TV, and then back to you. “Oh, uh, I uh…” he refuses to meet your gaze “…what do you, like, think of him?”
You turn to face him fully. “Of who exactly?”
“Spider-Man,” he points to the TV. “Vancouver’s latest hero.”
“He’s cool,” you shrug. “I always see him on the news and he’s always doing something good for others. What about you?”
Mark yawns before speaking. “Yeah. I think so too.” He smiles before turning back to his phone.
Something metallic catches your eye as he does so
“Ooh what’s this?” You gasp, rolling up his sleeve. “Is it a new watch? Wait, it can’t be it looks like—“
“Oh, uh,” he laughs nervously before gently grabbing your wrist and manoeuvring your hands away from the familiar device. “It’s nothing I swear!”
“Are you… cosplaying Spiderman?” You tease.
“Dude the next comic con is coming up. Gotta be ready for it, you know.” He laughs as he quickly tugs his sleeve over it.
You cock your head to the side.
The next comic con wasn’t until October. It was February.
