mary/nick - "one night stand ended up being my kid's teacher" au
{{ it’s long and bad and…eh }}
Mary would have been lying if she said Nick hadn’t been good. He’d been fantastic, even if she’d never tell him that to his face (due to the swelling men’s heads seemed to undergo after being told they were good in bed). She’d woken up sore in all the right places and a vague sense of warmth settled over her.
But she knew she had obligations tomorrow and she couldn’t effectively take action while she was tangled up in the bed sheets of another man’s bed. So, she carefully untangled herself from his arms and blindly rummaged around his room for her clothes. It took a bit of work, but soon enough, she was back in her heels and dress, quietly slipping out the door. With Celia at home, she didn’t have the luxury of staying for breakfast or even staying to get his number. She got her kicks and she should be thankful that she even got that.
She managed to make it home safely and crept upstairs quietly. She quickly peeked into Celia’s room to check on her sleeping daughter before climbing into her own bed and dozing off.

Mary had all but forgotten about Nick with the deep voice and the mouth that could work magic to make a girl become undone. That was until, Celia’s, with her pigtails bouncing, dragged her into her classroom, insisting that she just had to meet her teacher.
The classroom was standard first grade stuff. Primary colored construction paper. Paste. Crayons. Glitter. And…
Oh fuck.
The redhead muttered something vulgar under her breath as her eyes met Nick’s. He looked just as surprised as she was, if not more so.
But Celia carried on, entirely oblivious to this development as she dragged the taller man over to her by his hand.
“Mr. Massi, this my mama.” The little girl introduced, beaming up at her mother with bright eyes. Nick let out a little laugh and offered Mary his hand.
“I’ve actually met your mommy, Celia.” He admitted with a laugh as Mary took it with a slight smirk.
“Really?” Celia asked excitedly, as if her teacher had just unlocked the secrets to the universe.
“Mhm. Mr. Massi and I met at…school open house. When I came to pick up all of your forms, remember?” Mary explained as she crouched down to her height, occasionally glancing up at Nick in her peripheral. Celia nodded, her eyes wide as she looked up at Mary through thick eyelashes, wholeheartedly believing her mother. How could she know otherwise?
“Your mama is a real nice lady.” Nick commented playfully, shooting Mary a wink that Celia somehow managed to miss. Mary snorted and rolled her eyes as she stood back up. Celia seemed to lose interest in the conversation, wandering over to peer into their class fish tank as she could feel their attention shift away from her.
Mary laughed softly to herself as she watched her daughter for a moment, her head cocked to the side as she watched her lovingly before glancing back up at her teacher.
“Sorry about sneaking out. I had a someone at home who needed me.” She explained with a small smirk, jerking her head in the direction of the little girl.
“Well, she’s lucky to have a mother who’s so dedicated.”
“Stop brown nosing, Nick.”
“Hey, I just want to get your number this time before you run off into the night.” He joked. Mary rolled her eyes at the comment as she folded Celia’s little coat over her arm.
“It’s on her forms. Look it up if you want it so much.”
“I just might. Or I could just ask Celia what her mama is doing tonight.” Mary scoffed at the suggestion before gesturing for him to hand her something to write with. He handed her a pen and hovered over her as she jotted down her number onto a square of paper and handed it to him.
“Don’t call after nine because she’s in bed.” She instructed matter-of-factly as she recapped the pen and turning to call for her daughter. Nick grinned triumphantly at his good fortune as he watched Mary usher Celia out of the room.
How was that for luck?
