the tempest - arden
Once upon a time, Kyungsoo had actually tried to study in the time between classes. With a book perched in his lap, he would sit in the window near the Western entrance to the Math and Science complex. Now, he lingered in the Poppy Cafe, bag hung on the back of his chair with his cute and shy act. His fingers tapped away at the on-screen keyboard, followed by a string of bunny emojis so he lived up to his toki-toki nickname with one friend. In the next chat, he followed his reply with a dozen question marks. Like a rolodex, he scrolled through his list and gave them what they thought they needed, under the guise of sincerity.
In five minutes, he patched all the leaks before they started and boredom followed. As much as he enjoyed the daily grind of hearts and puppy dogs, he wanted something more, something greater than cutesy chats and reassurances.
He yearned for the ability to order those about him without so much as lifting a finger, but it seemed people out in the real world were far clingier than his father’s help. Even when he did fulfill his daily quota of friendship, the returns yielded far less than desired.
Kyungsoo was getting nowhere fast. Sighing, he climbed up from his seat to get a refill of his coffee, phone still out and unlocked in his hand.
