Hello!! For DWC, might I suggest "i’m a very valuable investment" for Passion and whoever you'd like?
@dadrunkwriting
Varlas is a bit broodier than usual here (perhaps something happened right before this? An argument? IDK) but it's SO fun to write him interacting with Passion! (Thanks for the prompt~)
“I don’t understand,” Passion mused, eyes flickering with both confusion and curiosity. “Solas is obviously annoyed by this facade, this performance, and yet… he puts up with it? With you. Why?”
The elf currently known as Varlas shrugged, leaning against a pillar across from where the spirit sat in this pocket of the Fade. Memories welled up inside him, unbidden — how many times had he annoyed Solas in the time they’d known each other? The first words he’d ever said to Solas had been a smart quip.
Solas could have ordered him punished for his insolence, but instead? He’d smiled and mused, “A wit as sharp as yours is wasted here.” That was what Solas had been drawn to from the start, wasn’t it? The thing that had earned him that first golden opportunity.
“I guess he must like my sharp tongue,” Varlas said. “And all the things I can do with it.”
The spirit laughed and leaned back, falling into a suggestive pose with one arm propped up to support its head. “Oh? Is that it? Somehow, that still feels… inadequate.”
That jab was an attempt to pry deeper, learn more. Varlas could tell. Passion was insatiable when it came to matters like this — hungry to understand more about what made this relationship work. I wish I knew.
Solas had given him so much, right from the very beginning. Nice clothes, lessons, invitations… even the name he was using right now. Our hope.
Hope for what, though? A future they could share as equals? Varlas had thought so, once, but he was no longer sure — perhaps he was only a pawn, after all.
But a game can hinge on a pawn, sometimes.
“I’m a very valuable investment,” Varlas said. “And so is he.”
