A Long Time Coming

"I always used to think it was just pointless, y'know? I mean, it was always going to end up in the same place so why bother with all that? Better to just go straight to the good stuff." James shrugged lightly. "But now? Now I see why people do it. It's fun." He had never expected to like dating as much as he now did, but there was also a part of him that wondered if he was only enjoying it so much because it was Liam he was dating. It was a strong possibility.

He felt a stirring as Liam pressed a kiss to his palm, but as always pushed it down. His own restraint had surprised him. He had thought it would be much harder than it had proved to be. "Coffee sounds good." James nodded, starting to head towards the kitchen. "Well, coffee for me, obviously. I imagine you'll want tea…"

Nighttime Confessions

James nuzzled into Liam happily, indulging in the peace and privacy of the moment before the cameras were turned back on in the morning. "As if I wouldn't." He grinned, nudging Liam onto his back so he could instead snuggle in up against his side. He laid a hand on Liam's chest, idly tracing patterns over his shirt with his fingertip. "I mean… things are special with you. I've never really felt like this with anyone else before."

He pillowed his head on Liam's shoulder, his hand then snaking down to slip tentatively under Liam's shirt. "Kinda feels like it should be forever, too…" He chose his words carefully – he didn't know how Liam felt about the future they might have outside of the house and the show. Was this just going to end once they left? I hope not. I don't want to give this up any time soon… "Maybe I'm just being stupid."

Post Work Cuddles

James pressed eagerly into Liam's side, eyes sliding closed even as Liam roused beside him. Liam's skin was warm, and he carried with him a scent James had already begun to associate with home – a combination of his favoured soap, the subtle cologne he wore, and the lingering echoes of tea. James had never had much love for tea, being more in favour of coffee, but the scent of it would forever remind of Liam, and that gave him reason enough to enjoy it.

"Long day." He echoed, his voice carrying with it the same weariness that had weighed down his limbs on the long walk to the bed from the front door. "Big fire. Couple of explosions. Nothing serious." He spoke in short, blunt statements, delivering only the necessary facts. He was too tired to waste time on unnecessary words. "Probably stink of smoke. Sorry." Despite the apology, he made no attempt to get up and wash it off – if anything he merely pressed closer to Liam to leech his warmth.

Home Again

James' eyes slipped closed at the touch of Liam's fingers in his hair, and he hummed softly in content as he felt those same fingers trace the lines of his face. He had once been fondly likened to a cat – craving the affection and attention of the one he loved, and being particularly fond of being petted. "You can do that?" Opening his eyes, he tipped his head back to get a better angle of Liam's face, brows knitting together in a curious frown. "Take me with you, I mean?"

He smiled at the kiss to his knuckles, enjoying the sweet affection that was his, and his alone. He was the one who had claimed Liam's heart so completely, and he loved it. "I don't know how well I'd fare at sea… you know me and my issue with… well, the ocean." Settling back to nuzzle against Liam's stomach once more, he couldn't deny the smile at the thought of going away with him. "But I suppose I could stomach it, if it meant I didn't have to stand there and watch you sail away again."

Lifetime Opportunity

James might have taken the other man's words as insult had his voice not been utterly devoid of heart or feeling, and clearly a mask he was frantically trying to hide behind. "If I'm confident it's only because I know what I'm capable of." He flashed another grin, utterly at ease in contrast to Liam's obvious discomfort. "And now you are, too." As Liam stepped forward to take the item of clothing from him, James automatically shifted back, holding them out of reach.

"What's the rush, handsome?" He could tell Liam was eager to run and hide from the truth – something Killian had warned him about before – and he wasn't about to let him get away with that. Not on his watch. "It's almost like you're afraid of what might happen if you stick around." Shifting to sit up against the pillows, he toyed with the elasticated waistband of Liam's boxers, grinning at him over the fabric. "You want these back, you're gonna have to work for them."

Revenge Served Hot

James drew in air the moment they parted, but the hunger for his partner still lingered just beneath the surface, only encouraged by those damned messages that still circled around in his head. "Fuck you, Liam Jones." He murmured, lips curving into a grin as he took in Liam's flushed features with desire-clouded eyes. "You're going to pay for this, y'know." Aware of the audience they had, he deliberately shifted, one hand fisting in Liam's curls to drag him into another kiss whilst his other hand swiftly and rather deftly slipped down the front of his jeans.

He lingered for long enough to really fluster Liam, and then he withdrew his hand and pulled back, stepping around him to head for the door. He paused at the entrance, turning back to grin at Liam over his shoulder. "Well, handsome, how about you come on back up, and I'll tell you – or hell, maybe even show you – just how I feel about those texts?" Leaning against the doorframe, he beckoned with one finger, one corner of his mouth lifted into a smirk. "Don't keep me waiting, or I'll go up there and start without you." It was an added bonus, he mused, that the lingering audience could probably hear every word he said.

Changing Course

James rolled his eyes, crossing the room to where Liam stood at one of his windows, his gaze no doubt seeking out the ocean just beyond the castle walls. "So, are you going to tell me what is bothering you? Or are you going to remain stubborn and hard-headed, and sulk by my window all evening? If it is the latter, I shall go back to my book." He leaned against the wall beside the window, arms folded across his chest as he studied the man's face. "You are much more attractive when you smile, you know."
