Flashback Final
….Where did it go wrong.
He could only stare numbly at the floor between his hands. All of his senses were dulled. He couldn't hear. Couldn't feel. Couldn't speak.
He was barely aware of the movement around him. Something told him he was being spoken to, but the words didn't come through. He was there physically. But his mind was not. It was back there.
How could one traverse through time. It was unlike anything they could of possibly imagined. It wasn't anything like shortcutting through alternate realities. He knew this already. But he hadn't been prepared for that. Not for that.
And his soul fell. Fell further than it had ever gone before. Something died inside him. The fire that once burned so bright was now nothing more than an ember. Buried in ashes of despair. And if he could of seen his eyes, he would of seen them darken. Almost vanishing against the blackness of his sockets.
He had f a i l e d.
He tried. He tried, so hard. He wanted to succeed. He wanted to do this so badly. They were so. Close.
And he failed them. He couldn't do it. He failed them a l l. This was suppose to be their answer. This was what would save them.
Now, he was even more broken than he already was. He was hanging onto but a single health point. 1 Hp. And he knew. He knew there would be no raising it. It was stuck there, permanently. But what did it matter.
He was weak. He had always been weak. Now he can parade it around like an official stamp. Showcase just how much of a f a i l u r e he really was.
He couldn't look at his father. He knew he was there. And he didn't dare see his face.
You were right, dad, he was thinking. You were always right.
He was a disappointment. He felt ashamed. Disgusted. But most of all, hopeless.
Because he knew he couldn't change it. After what he saw, he knew it'd be pointless to try.
So why even bother.
