Desire to make a Sky Alone AU where she’s selectively mute and lives with an abusive father figure of some sort
Rain
Sky stared out the window, watching the drops of water stream down the sides of wooden sill. It was muddy and gross and she... Was all alone.
She got down from the window and wandered to the kitchen, climbing onto the chair to look at the dish of baked potatoes and meatloaf the neighbors had left her. She sighed, the small child not really in the mood for eating.
The sound of someone knocking at the door softly grabbed her attention. She got down and meandered to the door. Expecting one of the neighbors come to check on her again, to try and convince her she needed to live with them, she sighed and opened the door.
To her surprise, no one stood on the covered porch. She looked around, confused.
A soft whimper brought her attention to the ground beneath her feet. On the mismatched porch, sat a basket with a blanket. Gently she pulled the blanket away, uncovering a black baby fox, whining and squirming.
Sky picked up the basket and carried it to the table. Hanging from the side was a piece of paper. She tore it off and read it.
'Night.'
hc Storm clouds
Sky and the kids have made a habit of huddling up together at the sight of dark clouds to help feel safe as they all tend to prepare for the worst when loud noises go off in the middle of the night.
Memory Stone
“Go… You want to just- just leave them here?” Sky brought her arms up to hug herself as the orange hedgehog but his hand on her shoulder.
“Not forever! We’ll come back for them, but.” He cupped her cheek with his other hand, bright blue eyes soft as her smiled. “It’ll be easier to get set up if it’s just us. We’ll become famous and then swing back here and get them!”
Sky reached up, taking his hand from her cheek and held it between her hands, looking over her shoulder at the house. Night and the boys peeked through the windows with worried expressions. She felt her heart strain, she didn’t want to do this…
Sky turned back to Jake, the glowing smile of hope making this all the harder. “Jake… I can’t.”
His expression feel, smile fading. “Wha- Bluebird, come on! Y-you and me! We can make it! Just like we talked about!” Desperation bled into his voice, clutching her hands.
She shook her head, ears pressing flat against her head. “Jake. I can’t leave them. They need me!”
“I need you too!” He begged, dropping to one knee. “Sky, please!”
“I always thought.. we’d wait till we were older!” She felt tears pricking at the corner of her eyes. “When the kids could handle themselves! But… Jake, it’s too soon, I can’t.”
His eyes searched her expression but she felt her heart drop to her knees.
She pulled her hands from his, stepping back and hugging herself again. “I’m.. I’m sorry Jake, you can go if this is what you want, but.. I have to stay here.”
His desperation turned to anger as her clenched both hands into fists. “F-fine. Fine!” He snapped, backing away with bared teeth. “Stay here with them then! Give up on your only chance out of this dump! Stay here and play house with the rest of these rejects while I go take my place among the stars! Be a lowlife!” He snapped, growling.
Sky merely took a step back to the porch. “Jake…”
“I don’t need you!” He shouted, furiously turning on his heel and storming off. “I don’t need any of you!”
Her shoulders sagged as he left, the only thing on him the guitar strapped to his back. She stayed, watching till the puffs of dirt from his stomping vanished before sinking to her knees and bawling into her palms.
Night and the boys were quick to rush outside and hug their sister, no one speaking as she sobbed.
